#NotMe

You’re millennial New Money  fad-apparel “entrepreneur”.

You’re so woke, you name your entire company “Feminist Apparel”.   You become a staple of the woke PC elite, worn by the glitterati at events ranging from the March for Women to…er, the Women’s March.  And everything in between.

And then complications arise:

It all came to a grinding halt in June of 2018 when Feminist Apparel staff discovered that the brand’s founder and CEO Alan Martofel had an admitted history of sexually abusing women. In fact, he claims it’s the reason why he started the company in the first place.

Opportunity to get even more woke?

Oh, what do you think?

After asking for his resignation, all nine employees were fired without notice or severance. (Only Martfel and an outside consultant remained.)

I’ve got a conundrum here.  On the one hand, it sounds like Marfel is a grade-a piece of garbage.

On the other hand,  en masse demands for a company’s owner and entrepreneur to resign from his own company, even given the backstory seems a little…

…well, I’ll let one of the victims tell it in her own words:

“This is the patriarchy and toxic masculinity at its fucking finest,” says Rebecca Green, the company’s now-former art director.

(Pro tip:  it’s not “masculinity” at al).

“I feel righteous and angry. I feel supported by my coworkers and friends. I also feel tired. I feel incredibly sorry knowing that there are survivors in this office who were led to believe that their contributions to this company were directly going to creating a safe space and platform for survivors, feminists, and marginalized identities. As an artist myself creating work based on my own experiences with the patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and harassment for this company — and by extension this man — I feel used and willfully mislead.”

Is it wrong to hope everyone in this story gets a smack upside the rhetorical head?

  1. I need to spend the next 10 minutes pounding my head against the wall to forget this. My generation is such a joke…

  2. It all came to a grinding halt in June of 2018 when Feminist Apparel staff discovered that the brand’s founder and CEO Alan Martofel had an admitted history of sexually abusing women.

The irony is almost too delicious. Im a feminist! Except for when it comes to what I do with how I treat women in my personal life. Also note the word, it doesn’t say a incident or two, it says a HISTORY. Which means he did this so often it cant be excused, this guy is human filth

  3. any man will tell you, true masculinity has nothing to do with sexually abusing women. It would actually consist of taking people who sexually abuse women out into the middle of the street and beating them with a baseball bat to within a inch of their lives because that is justice

  4. The difference between the Spanish Inquisition and modern feminism is forgiveness.

In Medieval times, it was understood that humans were imperfect but could be redeemed. Sinners could confess. They could reform their ways. They could make amends. They could be restored to the community of believers.

    Not anymore.

  5. JD, Ye shall be forgiven if you’re on the “correct” team. See Clinton, William J.

  6. One thing I’ve noticed over time is that a lot of self-described feminists are women who will tell you they’ve been abused by a series of men. Now we might quibble over what constitutes abuse, but I half wonder if the “gentleman” in this case clued into the same thing and inferred that feminists might be “easy” if he was seen as being on their side.

Can’t prove it, but I’ve got to wonder.

  7. Something about this revelation reminds me of the annoying tendency of “feminist” males to make up lurid ingratiating confessions. It is the mirror image of the “Jackie-style” abuse fables that is the currency of militant feminist groups.

It always backfire, as we can see here.

It is impossible to ingratiate yourself with feminists, soviets or SJW mobs carrying digital torches and pitchforks. Like cannibals, they see you as food.

  8. I think if you are a hardcore male feminist and you didnt sexually abuse women you are the exception, not the rule. The reason you become feminist is twofold, to prey on women and because you think all men are as horrible as you women need third wave feminism for protection

  9. JD, the difference between the Spanish Inquisition and modern feminism is that no one expects the Spanish Inquisition. With modern feminism, we do expect it.

  10. Can y’all imagine working with an office full of people that talk like that? Talk about a hostile work environment.

  11. One must have a heart of stone to read the death of Feminist Apparel without laughing.

  12. Mr. D, it brought a smile to my face. Id love to see any former worker try to interview for a job that is “normal”. The interviews would no doubt be hilarious.

  13. Swiftee, I wouldnt make it to lunch on day 1 without snapping and quitting

  14. Without feminist apparel, what are they going to wear?

Seriously, it strikes me that what they’re doing is the same thing as a bunch of bloggers do partnering with Google–make the design, someone prints and ships it for them. That they needed a staff of a dozen to do this does not say good things about their business acumen, I dare suggest.

Regarding the mood there, it strikes me that you’ve got to somehow reconcile a potpourri of views, many of which contradict others, all while affirming and the like. Not a good position to be in.

  15. “After asking for his resignation, all nine employees were fired without notice or severance.”

Makes me wonder when the lawsuits begin, and how many lawyers are lining up to represent the plaintiffs?

  16. Now those soulless, screaming harpies will have to go back to making their own twaat hats and vag suits.
    Sad.

  17. On the other hand, the business seems to have been operating since at least 2014 and none of the 9 employees say anything about them being personally harassed, abused or victimized……. Strange that.
