Facts Are No Impediment

It’s almost too obvious to be a Berg’s Law; when facts don’t favor the Dems’ argument (and they rarely do), and they know their audience isn’t informed or curious enough to check them on it (and they never are), and the media won’t trip them up (and they never do), then lying is just fine.

But it‘s a near thing.  It really is. According to those noted conservative tools at the WaPo.

  1. Not everyone is gonna be happy with every change but it is generally fair, especially for working and middle class people.

  2. Mitch, I suggest you name this law, the Goebbels Principle. Fits from the substance, application and current demographic: Fascists = Progressives

  3. Emery, given that more than 40% of the entire employed population doesn’t pay income tax and pays just the payroll tax, how likely is that an income tax rate cut will cut the taxes of those who weren’t paying taxes to begin with? Especially since “working class” generally means wages below the median? I know math is hard, but N% of zero is still zero.

That said, even though I pay MN tax, I’m not displeased with this change even though I’ll lose the state income tax deduction. Simplifying the damn code so that this Ph.D. doesn’t have to go to a specialist to get his taxes done would be a good thing. The Federal tax form I filed this year came to something north of 70 pages, and the entire thing with supporting worksheets and documents was more than double that. My Master’s theses weren’t as big as my Federal tax form! And when it was all said and done, all my income still counted as plain income and not some funky esoteric deferred tax credited non-“income” stuff like rich folks like Romney got.

  4. Pretty clear from the howls of the various interests whose ox is gored. Can’t have tax reform without trade offs. Seems clear the US needs a corporate tax rate that is competitive. Keeping mortgage deduction only for the middle class (houses <500k) but not for the rich is a good thing. Getting rid of the AMT is a good thing. So the plan isn’t perfect. I would rather debate it on it’s merits.

It is simply borrowing money to give tax cuts in an economy already growing at around 3 percent! Does that even begin to make sense. And the borrowings are being talked down by assuming a new substantially higher growth level which will incesse the tax take — a magic money tree plus unicorns!

    Yeah, Mitch, sure….

Let me count a few doosies from the GOP.

    1. Iraq clearly has WMD
    2. Obama is a Muslim
    3. Obama is not a US Citizen
    4. Trickle-down economics works
    5. President Trump had the largest inaugural crowds in history
    6. Voter Fraud is rampant and 3 Million people illegally voted for Clinton in the last election.

Mitch, news flash for you, the parties spin things. What’s FAR more telling is what the parties do with those untruths. The GOP uses those lies to steal people’s right to vote, uses BS like “people have the right to defend themselves” to perpetuate an environment that allows for the free flow of illegal firearms into the hands of criminals, and probably 15 other HUMONGOUS lies I could type out if I cared to take the time. The Reagan Administration was the most corrupt in history (having the most Cabinet members indicted), I believe the Nixon administration is second, and W’s is third. Gosh, Mitch, I wonder whether it’s ACTS or words that matter?

  7. Let’s see:

Let me count a few doosies from the GOP.

    1. Iraq clearly has WMD

The GOP? Try the CIA, MI6, DGSE, and every other major intelligence service in the world.

    2. Obama is a Muslimi

When did “The GOP” say that?”

    3. Obama is not a US Citizen

When did “The GOP” say that?”

    4. Trickle-down economics works

The free market does work. Socialism? It doesn’t.

    5. President Trump had the largest inaugural crowds in history

When did “The GOP” say that?

    Also – who cares?

    6. Voter Fraud is rampant and 3 Million people illegally voted for Clinton in the last election.

    Voter fraud IS rampant.

Mitch, news flash for you, the parties spin things.

    This is “spin”?

What’s FAR more telling is what the parties do with those untruths. The GOP uses those lies to steal people’s right to vote,K

    False.

uses BS like “people have the right to defend themselves” to perpetuate an environment that allows for the free flow of illegal firearms into the hands of criminals,

I’d ask you “what do you mean by that?”, but I suspect it’s a chanting point.

and probably 15 other HUMONGOUS lies I could type out if I cared to take the time.

    Ah. Probably?

    Huh.

  8. . . . uses BS like “people have the right to defend themselves” to perpetuate an environment that allows for the free flow of illegal firear<ms into the hands of criminals
On what planet is “people have the right to defend themselves” bullshit? Pen believes that “people have the right to defend themselves.”
This is insane. It like trying to emphasize a point by saying “people who use BS like ‘the earth is round’ . . .”
