Product Placement

A story from Kentucky is the usual kind of dog bites man piece that keeps internet news services in the chips; a couple was busted for getting their freak on in clear view of a Hardee’s drive-in in the town of Harlan.

But the wording of the story has me scratching my head (emphasis added):

The couple’s vehicle, a police citation notes, was parked next to the drive-thru lane, in full view of customers waiting to order Hardee’s favorites like the loaded breakfast burrito or the smoked sausage biscuit.

Fanciful/sloppy story editing?  Or product placement run amok?

  1. maybe the Hollywood depiction of Harlan Ky in the series “Justified isn’t so far off the mark and the better question would be “was this the first time or just the first time someone complained?”

  2. It’s a weird detail, and it should have been deleted in editing. But, it’s kind of a human interest piece, where you’re SUPPOSED to look for details. My question is: were they fucking in the morning?

  3. Fanciful/sloppy story editing? Or product placement run amok?

A journalist who thought they’d slip in a couple cute double entendres, and an editor who either didn’t catch them or didn’t care.

  4. As someone who manufactures consumer products, and has to deal with people selling ad space as well as companies that specialize in product placement, it wouldn’t suprise me if this was a slight nod to get some ad revenue.

  5. Speaking of adding commentary in a news story, did you see this in MPR’s story on Kurt Daudt and his credit and tax debts…
“The situation reveals a paradox for Minnesota’s highest-ranking Republican: He often rails against a state government for struggling to “live within our means” while failing to do so personally.”
The story notes the changes in his financial situation after quitting his full time job but goes to the “Blue Nation” hypocrite card here. Funny they don’t note the paradox of people protesting government force yet wanting more government force.

  6. I’ll bet it was the writer of the article who thought he was being funny.

But speaking of product placement, did anyone else see Trump’s conference last night? I thought I was watching QVC for a while there.
