Absolute Moral Authority

Jesse Hughes – lead singer of the band “Eagles of Death Metal”, the band that was playing at the Bataclan in Paris the night of the Paris Massacre – says what every gun rights activist already knows; the only response to bad guys with guns is good guys with guns:

“Did your French gun control stop a single [expletive] person from dying at the Bataclan?” Hughes said. “And if anyone can answer yes, I’d like to hear it, because I don’t think so. I think the only thing that stopped it was some of the bravest men that I’ve ever seen in my life charging head-first into the face of death with their firearms.”

The left’s answer, inevitably, is a series of academic postulates that wither as fast as the crowd at Bataclan under reasoned scrutiny, to say nothing of real-life events.

Dear MOA: With all due respect: QQQQ.

The only reasoned response?  You, and you alone, are responsible for your and your family’s protection.  And while the world is demonstrably safer than it was, 20 and 70 and 200 years ago, human nature means that evil, some time, some place, will be waiting for someone, somewhere – whether in the form of a lone mugger, a couple of rapists,  a gang of terrorists, or a government full of gangsters.

By the way – there’s been four terror-related mass shootings, and ten terror attacks altogether, since the Charlie Hebdo massacre, with a total death toll of 152, and 388 injured.

In Zürich, where handgun carry permits are relatively plentiful?  Holding steady at zero and zero.  While correlation doesn’t equal causation, it fits a pattern that we see here in the US, and that they saw in Israel in the seventies; terrorists (like delusional mass-shooters in general) avoid places where there might be resistance.

  1. Last week on a flight I saw a boy of 8-10 years kicking the seat in front of him. The man in that seat got out of his chair, pulled his gun, pistol-whipped the boy, and threatened to blow his brains all over his sister if he did it again. That put a stop to the seat kicking. The other passengers indicated their approval.

Oh, I’m sorry, I was having one of my concealed carry fantasy dreams. It’s amazing to hear concealed carry proponents describe how their carrying a gun will solve day-to-day problems for themselves and others. Many are like the one above. The disconnect from any sense of reality is astonishing. The actual reality more closely resembles the vigilante who sprayed a Home Depot parking lot with bullets trying to stop a shoplifter (unsuccessfully).

  2. EI,

I was having one of my concealed carry fantasy dreams. It’s amazing to hear concealed carry proponents describe how their carrying a gun will solve day-to-day problems for themselves and others.

I’m not aware of anyone who thinkgs it’ll solve a “day-to-day problem”. Violent crime is a pretty extraordinary problem.

Many are like the one above.

    Really?

Is there a major epidemic of people with carry permits doing that sort of thing?

It’s a rhetorical question. No. There is not. People with carry permits are several order of magnitude less likely to do anything of the sort than the general population.

The disconnect from any sense of reality is astonishing.

Yes, but not the one you’re thinking of.

The actual reality more closely resembles the vigilante who sprayed a Home Depot parking lot with bullets trying to stop a shoplifter (unsuccessfully).

    Wrong again, EI.

That sort of episode is vanishingly rare.

Sorry, EI. I believe I have dismantled your entire case.

  3. Funny you should mention that. I’m posting from Ironwood, Mi. which is a short drive to Hayward, Wi. The course is in great condition right now. The weather forecast is on our side for the early part of this week, then gets a little less favorable. I recommend (with the current weekend forecast) for glide wax a HF Layer- HF7X with an over-layer of Cera F Layer- FC7X and a lineal structure rilled into the base.

My event is the 50k skate. This yrs goal is the same as every year and that is to finish ‘high’ enough to remain in the first wave (there are 9 waves with the Elite wave going first and then the first wave and so on). This will require a finish time of 3 hrs of less for me. Last year I was about 10 mins under 3 hrs. The winner finishes in about 2 hrs.

  4. The woman in the Michigan HD parking lot shooting spree got 18 months and her license to carry revoked. Seems appropriate.
However, many people seem to think that law enforcement should be allowed to carry guns and shoot people. Many of the same people believe that cops are racist, or are the tools of a racist system, and often shoot people without justification.
    Hard to square that circle.

  5. It is ironic that so many of the anti-second-amendment people claim that the government should work to fulfill the desires of the same people that they think are not competent to store and use a handgun.
It is even more ironic that these people typically are ignorant of how to safely store and use a handgun themselves.
Plainly put, if you can’t be trusted with a gun, how can you be trusted to direct the government of the most powerful nation state that has ever existed on the face of the Earth?

  6. There was an accompanying article in your link Mitch, from where I present this, from the same guy:

“I just saw people doing some of the most beautiful things that a person can do. … They died very well, with great courage.”

It is my hope that you will cut this quote and paste it over every word the stinking waste of flesh that calls itself “Emery” posted.

    Call it ironic justice.

  7. Make, I guarantee if you dig a bit further, you’ll find the website Emery copied that from.

The fucking asswipe hasn’t had an original thought since the first time he snuck into his sisters room.

  8. I see you still carry the burden of not protecting your sister from “dear old dads” unwanted advances into your sisters room at night.
