Sort Of Like An “Affordable Traffic Act” Exchange

I was driving north on 35E yesterday afternoon, when I saw there was no traffic on the southbound side coming out of Saint Paul.

Then came about 10 cop cars, whoopie lights a-blazin’.

Then the Presidential limo.

Then about a dozen or two other SUVs, limos, an ambulance, and cop cars.

Then I turned up Ayd Mill Road – a tributary arterial road that’s sort of a hidden four-lane freeway through the middle of Merriam Park, Crocus Hill and Highland before connecting to 35E – and saw traffic backed up from 35 almost all the way back to Hamline. That’s about two miles.

This being Saint Paul, I figured most of them probably voted for him, and it served them right.

  1. Surprised he didn’t take Light Rail. More spacious than the Presidential Limo and fewer people aboard.

  2. Around 5:00-5:45 it was gridlock on 62 from Edina to Fort Snelling, 35W, Hiawatha Ave, and who knows where else.

I always ask….if Algore really beleaves in man-made global warming, why does he have a giant mansion/compound that requires its own coal fired plant to provide its electricity (someone in Tenn leaked his electric bill a while back)

If Barry O. believes in man-made global warming, why would he block key highways during rush hour, causing thousands of cars to sit idling in stop and go traffic.

  3. chuck I saw that bill for ONE of Al Gore’s homes in Tennessee for the single month of August and compared it to my electric bill – it had taken me the previous 9 years, 8 1/2 months to spend as much on electricity. And he’s getting that cheap TVA electricity.

I never paid attention to another word he said. As DG would so elegantly phrase it “Epic Fail!”

  4. Gore says that he offsets his power use by buying carbon credits.
So, BTW, does NYT’s “green” columnist. Thos. Friedman. Friedman lives in this mansion: http://wonkette.com/413811/this-is-literally-thomas-friedmans-house

If you are rich, you still live in luxury w/o sinning by buying carbon credits. If you are poor, you can’t drive to work w/o creating more pollution. It is literally evil to be poor in the greenie world.

  5. Did he visit the VA while he was in town? It’s right down the street from M’haha Falls, where he gave a little speech. I’m shocked he didn’t stop by and meet some of “the boys.”

  6. 10 cop cars lights ablaze AT 45 MILES AN HOUR I certainly hope. That stretch of I-35E is the Practice Freeway, speed limit 45. Wouldn’t want traffic noise to disturb the 1%ers living on the bluff above, even if it is The Light Bringer.

  7. Joe: He has an exemption from bothersome things like speed limits. “Light bringers” get to fast-track their actions – in spite of what the Supreme Court may have said yesterday. The president never got their memo. He lost the e-mail, it seems. Lot of that going on, I understand.

  8. Stink nails it. W would have put in some visits for those who couldn’t really repay his kindness. Not Dear Leader. He’s all about himself.

WCCO was running a bit this morning about where you’d tell Obama to go. You know what my response was, and there is something in the fact that apparently nobody at WCCO had clued in to the fact that about half the country would respond EXACTLY the way I did. It’s an almost willful obtuseness.

(they were asking what restaurant he should go to, but the obvious rejoinder was just.too.tempting)

  9. Telling the truth is not Minnesota Nice, bike. However, NOT telling the truth passes for journalism.

  10. Shortly after 6pm, the state patrol had shut down SB 100 just north of 394. Of course, the BRILLIANT! (think: Guinness commercial) state patrol stopped just past the 394 west exit so about 20-30 cars were stuck because they couldn’t back up and take 394 west. Fortunately, I was looking ahead, saw the backup and realized what it was in enough time that I WAS able to get over and take 394W before the point of no return.

The 394 east to 100 south exit was shut off as well. I assume the 394 west to 100 south cloverleaf was as well, but I was too busy explaining why I was so irritated to my daughter, to look for that one.

  11. He’s fighting for you though, don’t you know? You stupid people need to appreciate the One before he becomes truly impotent come January 2015.

  12. Now the question is what other highways is he going to shut down so he can get a round of golf in. Must be nice getting to inconvenience millions of people for one’s daily entertainment.

  13. Yea, I had to chuckle to myself as I watched some of the clips where the Blamer in Chief, in a whiny voice, blamed the GOP, again, for keeping people poor, while his drooling sycophant bobble heads nodded, cheered and clapped. God, it makes me ashamed to say that I’m from here.

This being Saint Paul, they not only voted for him, but locally continue to vote for purposely increasing traffic congestion, so that others will give up driving. (Not them, of course). And while they tell us thiscongestion is “green,” we all really know what congestion does to our gas mileage. I haven’t found the evidence yet, but I highly suspect urbanist groups like Transit for Livable Communities gets a big amount of funding from oil companies.
