Now Be Thankful

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

You know that moment when the house is totally silent?  The TV is off, the refrigerator stops humming, the kids are asleep and the furnace fan isn’t blowing?  Haven’t had that for the last day or two.  Furnace fan just keeps blowing.  And that’s a good thing.

Thank you, Xcel Energy, for keeping the natural gas and electricity flowing so my house is warm.  Thank you, oil field workers, pipeline maintenance engineers, electricity linemen . . . all the burly men who work in unimaginably bad conditions to provide me with the luxury of sitting in my recliner reading Sci Fi on the Kindle.

  1. …and the outside telephone techs who fix and maintain the lines for the data to your kindle.

    You’re welcome. 🙂

  2. A shameful display of support for the purveyors of fossil fuels and those who facilitate their continued use. You may as well show support for fracking and the Keystone pipeline. You are clearly putting your selfish desire for warmth and survival ahead of the needs of our environment … you have outed yourself.

  3. It’s true, Joe, it’s all true. In fact, I even violated the “idling” law several times last week (my car sits outside so I started it at 2:00 a.m. and ran it a while to make sure it would start in time for work).

Of course, my support for fossil fuels stems from the heady days when I worked driving truck in the oil fields in the Badlands of North Dakota, in the 1980’s. I worked for Matador Trucking, a division of Koch Oil Industries. Yes, I was a minion! I not only admit it, I proclaim it! And it’s taken me all these years to worm my way into a position of influence where I can slip comments to Mitch to post on SITD hoping to poison the minds of our youth with wicked fantasies of slipping into a nice warm car to commute to work.

The evil plan is working! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
