Qui Est Jean Galt?

The answer? “Gérard Depardieu est Jean Galt!

Few Frenchmen are more recognizable at home and abroad than the movie star Gerard Depardieu. Last week, Depardieu caused a great controversy in his native land by moving to Belgium – partly to avoid the 75 percent income tax on the wealthy that was introduced by the socialist President of France,

What was it that Gandhi said? “First they ignore you, then they mock you, then you win?”

Well, the Frogs ignored the facts; punitive taxation causes capital flight.  Now they’ve switched to mockery:

Francois Hollande. Depardieu’s move was condemned by the French political establishment, including the Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault who called the actor’s action “pathetic.”

And I really love the response:

Depardieu shot back and, in an open letter to Monsieur Ayrault, wrote, “I’m leaving because you think success, creation, talent and anything different should be punished. I am sending you back my passport and social security, which I have never used.” The French actor claims to have “paid 85 percent taxes on his revenues this year [2012] and estimated that he had paid €145m ($189m) in total since he started work as a printer at the age of 14.”

I’m going to looooove watching France crash and burn.

  1. Yes, it’s an amazing turn around of public opinion. Before his letter, 98% of Frenchmen vilified him. After the letter, he’s getting support of 70%. It will be interesting how many Minnesotans or for that matter, U.S. citizens will also pack up and head elsewhere.

  2. Why is it the public will pay attention when a “celeb” sees a light, but won’t listen to their own common sense? This is not a complex issue, unless the media is given license to control the narrative.

  3. But this can’t be true! RickDFL said ‘going galt’ was a silly wingnut fantasy, and he’s right about EVERYTHING!

  4. In the bigger picture what will it be for anyone to do when there’s no place left to flee…………it won’t be pretty of that I’m sure.

  5. TBS, I think it boils down to a phrase a friend of mine often repeats: A person can often be brilliant, but people are dumber than a box of rocks.
