And There Was Rejoicing

As of today, AM1280 is making a big programming change.

The Walter Winchell Mark Levin show will be moving back to the 11PM-2AM slot.

And – this part, I like – the Dennis Miller show will be moving up to the 8-11PM shift.

And I’ll cop to it, I love it.  Not a huge Levin fan – but I love the Miller show.

So now, hopefully everyone’s happy.  But for one, I certainly am.

  1. Usually I can’t take political talk radio. Too distracting. Miller I can leave on the background while I work and only let it grab my attention when he says something interesting — which is apolitical, more often than not.
I broke down laughing when I heard Levin do one of those “send your true love a bouquet of roses this Valentines Day” commercials. I like Levin well enough, but he shouldn’t try to do romantic.

  2. At first I thought it would be a NARN related announcement. But this might be even better because it happens 5 days a week. Love, love, love The Dennis Miller show and have missed it since it was moved. I’ll have to switch between Davis and Emmer and Dennis but hey, at least we’ve got choices.

  3. Eh, I prefer Levin to Miller. The grumbling/browsing/verbal explosions of Levin (And Michael Weiner for that matter) don’t bother me. When I am able to invest serious time into Levin, I always come away better informed and/or educated. Miller might be more pleasant to listen to, and more fun to sit in a bar and have a beer or 3 with, but his shows always seem “lighter” in content to me.

Unfortunately, the only time I ever get to listen to that time slot is if I’m driving. Which doesn’t happen that often, and when it does it’s not for very long.

However, at this point in broadcast choices, Boortz gets my infrequently available ear from 8-11. Besides NARN and Jason Lewis, there aren’t really any other shows I prefer over Boortz.

  4. Those of us who prefer Mark Levin straight up listen live at wabcradio.com (5-8pm central)

  5. Also Levin is a whiny bitch, glad I won’t ever have to be subjected to that voice again. At 11 I go into my conspiracy./BBC listening mode. I know most of it is BS but I love Coast to Coast AM and Darkness Radio that sets it up at 11 on KTLK

That’s funny because I come away with pretty much the opposite feeling, as Levin’s shtick seems to largely consist of yelling into his microphone and trying to make name-calling a point of honor. Levin strikes me as an angrier, louder version of Mike Gallagher albeit one that tries to discuss weightier topics.

Miller has definitely come a long way from his post-SNL Rant days. He’s not quite in the league of Dennis Praeger (yet) but I find that I get more benefit from a thoughtful discussion of a lighter topic than a rant about a meatier one. YMMV

  7. I’ve found that if I want heavy/wonky, I’ll go with a Prager or a Hewitt (or Rush, on those rare days when I’m near a radio during the mid-day).

By that time of the evening, I’m in the mood for Miller’s style – illumination by deft flensing.

Levin’s got great subject matter – but his style just grates on me.
