Who’s Shading the Downey Campaign?

Late yesterday, I wrote about this curious postcard that a correspondent in Edina recieved:

And on back…:

I got this email along with the attachment. The email is from a known, Republican source who is highly familiar with both the Downey campaign and GOP politics in the area:

Today in mailboxes in Edina, delegates to Saturday’s endorsing convention for HD41A received a misleading postcard, clearly intended to suppress turnout of Keith Downey supporters.

Keith is NOT running for Hennepin County Commissioner and is going full tilt at the endorsement on Saturday in spite of this desperate attempt to derail his campaign.

To the casual observer, this appears to be a dirty trick, intended to confuse people as the endorsement battle reaches its climax tomorrow.

Did anyone else in Edina see this?

  1. Republicans sure wouldn’t engage in dirty tricks.. never happens,

“Hagee, leader of a San Antonio megachurch, has referred to the Roman Catholic Church as “the great whore” and called it a “false cult system” and “the apostate church” — “apostate” means someone who has forsaken his religion.”

McCain was criticized for originally having a tepid response to this comment – one which today he later ‘enhanced’ to repudiate the comments. One wonders why the initial tepid response, well, actually, one doesn’t.

Welcome to all SiTD Catholics out there, welcome to the real face of Republicanism.

  2. Oh, the Hagee thing?

Jeez, Peev – jam words in peoples’ mouths much?

One wonders why you feel the need to cherrypick things to hammer into base motives to ascribe to people you disagree with…well, no. One doesn’t.

  3. So a few weeks ago, you fished out some notion that I was threatening violence, and now you’re conjuring up anti-Catholicism?

    You’re a one-guy defamation machine!

  4. Dude, actually liberal Democrats (Democratics) hate Catholics. Examples…Air America….the gay sex thing….I work for a rather liberal company and the gay group here brought in an anti-Catholic bigot to speak here. One of the asses who organizes protests at Catholic churches.

  5. Peev,

First, your fusillade was appropos of nothing – the thread was about whether or not someone is trying to derail Keith Downey.

Second, I’m about as Catholic as they come and trust me, I see a lot more anti-Catholic bigotry coming from the Left than I do from the right. Nick Coleman bashes the Church almost every week, for goodness’ sake. The examples Chuck offers are also spot-on.

  6. Peev doesn’t care about bigotry. He’s mostly interested in hearing the sound of his own voice.

  7. Leaving aside the complete non-sequitur that Peev’s comment is, in its entirety, for the moment.

Peev, when you write “Republicans sure wouldn’t engage in dirty tricks.. never happens”, it compels one to ask “DOES Peev have any reading comprehension?” Who ELSE would be playing this dirty trick on the Downey campaign? A Democrat? Why would they want to trip up someone who’s ostensibly weaker, to shore up an incumbent that on the one hand they won’t beat in an election, but on the other hand they don’t have to since he’s as likely to vote with as against them?

Did you even bother to think about any of this before you launched into your defamatory little tangent?

It’s only a rhetorical question; I think we all know the answer.

  8. It’s hard for Peev to write something coherent with his lips attached to the backside of angryclown’s saggy, polka-dotted pants.
