Grrrl Power

Remember when the feminists said if women ran the world, peace would break out?

Reality says not so:

The change became possible, though, only after Mrs. Clinton joined Samantha Power, a senior aide at the National Security Council, and Susan Rice, Mr. Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations, who had been pressing the case for military action, according to senior administration officials speaking only on condition of anonymity. Ms. Power is a former journalist and human rights advocate; Ms. Rice was an Africa adviser to President Clinton when the United States failed to intervene to stop the Rwanda genocide, which Mr. Clinton has called his biggest regret.

Now, the three women were pushing for American intervention to stop a looming humanitarian catastrophe in Libya.

If a “progressive” and an inexperienced president had a kid, what would it be?

A neocon!

  1. Everyone knows liberal women are warriors. They have to be to respond to centuries of oppression by men.

  2. And did you make comments like this about Margaret Thatcher or Condi Rice?

Or didn’t you consider them feminists?

This ‘war’ is likely to be as short or shorter than the war in the Falklands, and could lead to much more peace in the region if Quadaffi is ousted; but then it is the Brits who are being the most outspoken about getting him out of power.

Maybe they are feeling a bit aggrieved over the Lockerbie bomber fiasco where it turned out that big oil interests appear to have gotten someone out of jail on the false premise of his being in the final stages of a terminal illness.

Quadaffi was a thug back when Reagan bombed him; he is a thug now.
I suspect that being privy to information we are not, that these three women are advocating we get on the right side of history as the middle east moves towards democracy. Unlike Condi Rice, this could be far more successful advice in that regard than our misadventure on false pretenses, in Iraq, and cost us far less, including fewer – possibly zero – American lives of our military. While the intention is certainly for peace to result, I don’t know that feminists have ever avowed that peace would occur spontaneously without further wars ever happening ‘if women ran the world’.

However, women DON’T run the world, so it is a false premise you are making here.

Obama should have had taken this to Congress first, but it appears his actions are legal, or I would expect they would have been challenged by now in court.

Kermit, I think you assumptions about both women and liberals is badly flawed. I certainly don’t operate on the premise of male oppression, although I’m sometimes considered to be the ‘penigma attack dog’ or the ‘penigma pit bull’, but I’ve encountered false male assumptions about what women can and cannot do in my life. On the opposite side of that, some of my most influential mentors have been men who encouraged me to push those limits. As the father of a daughter, I hope you are one of those latter – or do you tell your daughter that women should be submissive to men? I hope not.

Speaking only for myself, I have never considered you “penigma pit bull”, a “penigma shitzu” or a “penigma chihuahua” perhaps, but never a “penigma pit bull.”

  4. Doggie, if you think women don’t run the world you obviously have never been married to one.

  5. Maybe they are feeling a bit aggrieved over the Lockerbie bomber fiasco where it turned out that big oil interests appear to have gotten someone out of jail on the false premise of his being in the final stages of a terminal illness.

    Nice selective information there.

    First paragraph of http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article6814939.ece :

“The British government decided it was “in the overwhelming interests of the United Kingdom” to make Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber, eligible for return to Libya, leaked ministerial letters reveal. ”

It was big government working hand in hand with the motherland’s oil company.
