Census Redux

The short, perhaps simplistic response to the US Census numbers for Minnesota, which will be driving the upcoming redistricting efforts?  The conservative, GOP-dominated parts of this state are succeeding. The DFL-dominated ones are floundering.

Voters – the ones that can – are voting with their feet.

The longer, more detailed analysis of the same question?

About the same.

Not just in Minnesota.  Southern, Republican sun-belt states are booming; the Democrat rust-belt is atrophying.

Rigorously Republican North Dakota?  Kapow.  And now, it’s not all in the oil.

The lesson is clear.  “Progressivism” equals decay, rot, death.  Conservatism equals vigor, growth, life itself.

That is all.

  1. People don’t want decay, rot and death? I’m no demographer, but I sense these numbers tell a story. If, that is, anyone outside the 651 or 612 Area Code will listen.

  2. Please, please, please, redraw me out of the 5th CD. It would be nice to actually have a Congressional representative after all these decades.

  3. The 5th is only going to get bigger kerm. You had better assimilate and learn to speak about 7 foreign languages.

On my end the 8th keeps getting bigger and I might end up in it. On the plus side maybe Jim (un)Abler won’t be my State Rep anymore although he is a great deal better than my former Reps in NE Minneapolis.

Also our property taxes fell again this year.

  4. Kerm: Representative Ellison would like to talk to you about your attitude. You need re-education. Your racism and Islamophobia have clouded your thinking.

  5. I’m sorry. I was busy crying in front of a Congressional hearing. What was that about the 5th getting bigger? Sniff.

  6. Please, please, please, redraw me out of the 5th CD. It would be nice to actually have a Congressional representative after all these decades.

Would you like to join us in the Fightin’ 4th?

  7. The 4th and 5th need to be combined into one…

Mr. D, we in the northern metro cities haven’t been able to put up much of a fight against Betty!

  8. Only if you can move the boundary. In this wonderful Obama economy I can’t afford to move.

  9. The change would have been larger by about an order of magnitude, had not the economy collapsed in 2008.

Millions of Snow Belt homeowners intended to sell their homes and retire to the Sun Belt. Those plans changed when homes couldn’t be sold for enouch to pay the debt. Florida land prices – formerly sky high with demand – now languish.

If I didn’t know better, I’d suggest it all was a Democrat conspiracy to throw the election to Obama then lock people into their present states until after the census. Come to think of it, I DON’T know better. And since the proof of a great conspiracy is that there is no proof . . . OMG, Mitch, you need to investigate this at once!
