{"id":90213,"date":"2026-05-07T08:58:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T13:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=90213"},"modified":"2026-05-07T08:58:33","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T13:58:33","slug":"change-in-the-weather-for-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=90213","title":{"rendered":"Change In The Weather &#8211; For Now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After a few months of listening to some of my Libertarian and &#8220;Alliance 4 Freedom&#8221; friends yakking about how the Trump administration and the GOP are the\u00a0<em>real\u00a0<\/em>gun control party &#8211; driven by a couple of dumb remarks by Kristi Noem, Jeannine Pirro and Trump himself &#8211; Joe Doakes points out something that I&#8217;ve written about over at HotAir.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump, for all his northeastern ambivalence about guns and the 2nd Amendment, has done more to reinforce the right to keep and bear arms\u00a0<em>as a right\u00a0<\/em>(let&#8217;s not focus on &#8220;bump stocks&#8221; for right now) than any president&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;.I was about to say &#8220;of my lifetime&#8221;, but the correct ending to the sentence is &#8220;&#8230;that any president has ever needed to&#8221;. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Too many MAGA people moan about what they are not seeing done while ignoring the incredible wealth of good news in their midst.<br><br>I\u2019ll give you just one example.<br><br>Did you know that the DOJ\u2019s Civil Rights Division has created a \u201cSecond Amendment Section,\u201d designed to protect the\u2026<\/p>&mdash; Cynical Publius (@CynicalPublius) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CynicalPublius\/status\/2051829221056819239?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s of particular interest to me &#8211; partly because of the orgy of gun grabbing that the MN Senate just passed (it&#8217;s going to die in the House, and it&#8217;s pretty much intended to rile up the Karens for mid-terms), and partly because I am a litigant against the city of Saint Paul&#8217;s peek-a-boo &#8220;assault weapons ban&#8221;. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anyway &#8211; Trump&#8217;s prior squishiness about binary triggers notwithstanding, I never thought I&#8217;d see a Department of Justice react to a pinheaded local and state gun control bills quite like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheJusticeDept?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheJusticeDept<\/a> demanded that Denver end its criminalization of its citizens\u2019 ownership of commonly used firearms such as the AR-15. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CivilRights?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CivilRights<\/a> is committed to protecting the 2A rights of Denver\u2019s, and all of America\u2019s, law-abiding citizens!
