{"id":90021,"date":"2025-11-10T06:57:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T12:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=90021"},"modified":"2025-11-10T06:57:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T12:57:15","slug":"as-predicted-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=90021","title":{"rendered":"As Predicted"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>So I&#8217;ll admit it &#8211; I gave Mayor Frey about a 51% chance of beating Omar Fateh last week. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But I figured that if Frey\u00a0<em>did\u00a0<\/em>win, the results would look a\u00a0<em>lot\u00a0<\/em>like the 2021 &#8220;Defund the Police&#8221; initiative vote;\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Progressives, especially feckless young white ones, voting for the radical change<\/li>\n<li>People who had something to\u00a0<em>lose\u00a0<\/em>from that radical change &#8211; people in North Minneapolis who already live with crime, and people in Linden Hills and west of the Lakes with something to lose &#8211; would vote against.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And lo and behold:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mw-file-element\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/f\/f3\/2025_Minneapolis_mayoral_election_results_by_ward_%28updated%29.svg\/250px-2025_Minneapolis_mayoral_election_results_by_ward_%28updated%29.svg.png\" srcset=\"\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/f\/f3\/2025_Minneapolis_mayoral_election_results_by_ward_%28updated%29.svg\/330px-2025_Minneapolis_mayoral_election_results_by_ward_%28updated%29.svg.png 2x\" width=\"150\" height=\"252\" data-file-width=\"512\" data-file-height=\"859\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The blue precincts went Fateh; the tan (?) ones, Frey.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And who&#8217;d thunk it &#8211; Fateh took the urban-life theme parks like Marcy Holmes and Northeast below Broadway, and the toffs in Kenwood, and the wannabe starving artists in Whittier. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The North? \u00a0Linden Hills and Nokomis? \u00a0West of the Lakes? \u00a0All Frey. \u00a0Even Longfellow thought Fateh was a radical too far. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Color me amazed. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps mores &#8211; the defeat of Katie Cashman leaves the DSA unable to override the mayor&#8217;s veto for the first time in years. \u00a0 \u00a0That&#8217;s gotta smart. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After their debacle in 2021, the DSA said they&#8217;d be back in force for 2025. \u00a0They weren&#8217;t gonna let\u00a0<em>that\u00a0<\/em>happen again. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And yet here we are. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;ll be back again. \u00a0The next election is always the crucial one. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But if this was indeed the perigee for leftism in Minneapolis (and I remain to be convinced), and the city is going to have to deal with slow decay rather than flaming implosion &#8211; well, that&#8217;s a slightly better grade of crisis, isn&#8217;t it?\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not gonna declare hope.  But last Tuesday wasn&#8217;t ALL bad.
