{"id":89482,"date":"2025-04-08T03:25:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T08:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=89482"},"modified":"2025-04-08T07:15:50","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T12:15:50","slug":"89482","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=89482","title":{"rendered":"Girl Brawl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If it seems like just yesterday the national media was swooning over Saint Paul&#8217;s city council &#8211; the first all-female city council in the US, we were told &#8211; it&#8217;s because it practically was just yesterday that the entire establishment <em>was&nbsp;<\/em>swooning over them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re <em>women<\/em>, donchaknow.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;m not gonna say I predicted this, but you know I kinda predicted this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BUBBLE DAYS ARE OVER: St. Paul City Council lost its president this year, triggered a defamation lawsuit and workplace conduct investigation, and could not choose a 7th member, leaving tie-breaking votes to a mayoral appointee. Attendance issues are real: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IA9yiFH0jy\">https:\/\/t.co\/IA9yiFH0jy<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Frederick Melo, Reporter\/Axolotl (@FrederickMelo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FrederickMelo\/status\/1908931500524941596?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The president was, as luck would have it, my &#8220;representative&#8221;, Mitra Jalali &#8211; a woman whose &#8220;flexibility&#8221; on issues and identity makes Tim Walz look all boring and consistent; she left the council in January to focus on her health or something.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the council has deadlocked on everything from a temporary replacement for Jalali, to space for the city&#8217;s new Sudanese-style trash collection service to stage its trucks (forcing Mayor Carter to declare an emergency and, speaking of emergemcies, forcing Mayor Carter to appear like a relative moderate and grownup. <\/p>\n<p>Or perhaps the one person in the transaction who shows up for work: the councilwomens&#8217; attendance is a little dismal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Attendance records for 43 St. Paul City Council meetings last year reveal Mitra Jalali showed for every one, but only her. Others missed up to 16% of 43 meetings. All 7 members were in attendance together just 19 times.
