{"id":89188,"date":"2025-02-04T05:17:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T11:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=89188"},"modified":"2025-02-04T06:15:10","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T12:15:10","slug":"the-usual-suspects-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=89188","title":{"rendered":"The Usual Suspects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>After almost five years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/kstp-news\/top-news\/city-of-minneapolis-announces-4-applicants-to-redevelop-the-peoples-way-at-george-floyd-square\/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook_KSTP-TV&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawIKOPxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHVwMWr_FQpeWDTm_yjGC3ANOe7YIkYbsmpXnU7PC-mOdYx3UPUi2mCp8AA_aem_cbXfoGcNS1TQdhQF-_DJlQ\">City of Minneapolis &#8220;plans&#8221; to &#8220;do&#8221; &#8220;something<\/a>&#8221; with the former Speedway in &#8220;George Floyd Square&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m adding emphaiss to the quote below for a reason:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The City of Minneapolis has received four applications to redevelop The People\u2019s Way, which was formerly a Speedway gas station at the corner of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gas station turned into a gathering place in the wake of George Floyd\u2019s murder. For the past four years, the community has used the site for twice-daily meetings, annual events honoring George Floyd, gardening and other activities, according to the city\u2019s Request for Qualifications presentation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So <a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/kstp-news\/top-news\/4-private-groups-bid-on-former-speedway-property-in-george-floyd-square\/\">who are these four groups<\/a>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>City Councilmember Andrea Jenkins represents the area and she told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS <strong>not much is known about what the private groups<\/strong> would do with the property, but said it is a positive step toward progress and growth at George Floyd Square.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m gonna guess we know one thing about them:  They&#8217;re dues-paying members of Minneapolis&#8217;s DFL\/DSA non-profit\/industrial complex.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you look at Rise &amp; Remember, Minnesota Agape Movement, P3 Foundation and Urban League Twin Cities, you&#8217;ll realize not only that nobody ever went broke betting against the City of Minnepolis transferring money to its political class, but that whatever &#8220;happens&#8221; at George Floyd Square is going to be both exquisitely expensive and a magnet for blight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/riseandremember.org\/about\/\">Rise and Remember<\/a> &#8211; run, among other people, by George Floyd&#8217;s aunt.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theagapemovement.com\/\">Minnesota Agape Movement<\/a> &#8211; headquartered <em>in <\/em>George Floyd Square.  Their &#8220;team&#8221; page is blank.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/p3inc.org\/\">P3 Foundation<\/a> &#8211; if I&#8217;ve got the right one, they appear to be national nonprofit that is into <a href=\"https:\/\/ecworkforcemn.org\/executive-summary\/\">all sorts of things<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ultcmn.org\/\">The Urban League<\/a> needs no introduction.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway &#8211; it&#8217;s going to wind up being a &#8220;community space&#8221; that turns into a graffity-coated monument to blight.&nbsp; But the non-profits will get their payoff.&nbsp; So tomayto\/tomahto, I guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After almost five years, the City of Minneapolis &#8220;plans&#8221; to &#8220;do&#8221; &#8220;something&#8221; with the former Speedway in &#8220;George Floyd Square&#8221;.
