The first 12 guys and girls results are in. Two of each going home this week. The verdict after the jump.<\/p>\n

Hey, doesn’t Allison Iraheta sound awesome? I always liked her. I’d prove it by linking my posts from last season, but my old blog host is kaput. Anyway, she serenaded us between the first and second elimination. Last year’s winner Kris Allen got put to work between the third and fourth, but he also had to pimp for “Idol gives back.” Advantage Allison.<\/p>\n
Amidst that fabulous entertainment, four people got booted off the show tonight. And one of them was actually someone I predicted!<\/p>\n
The first to go was Janell Wheeler. She’s the one I predicted. I’m someone gratified that I didn’t see many others seeing that one coming. Kinda feel bad about this one because she came out of the gate singing something stupidly wrong for her style. She might have redeemed herself well given another week. But first impressions are like that.<\/p>\n
After that we lost Ashley Rodriguez, whom I had in my bottom three, but didn’t predict to go just yet. Sorry Ashley, but you weren’t going to make the top 12 even if you survived this.<\/p>\n
The guys’ eliminations I had all wrong. I had Tim Urban and Alex Lambert going. But actually…<\/p>\n
We lost Joe Munoz, which I can understand but really don’t think was deserved. He sang better than 3 or 4 others at least. He also sounded the best of all of them in his parting “sing out.”<\/p>\n
We also lost Tyler Grady which was totally deserved but I totally didn’t see coming. I thought his affected 70’s front guy schtik was a threat to make it to the top 12 no matter how phony his performances proved. America exceeded my expectations here.<\/p>\n
Next week the theme is… as yet unreleased. I’m hoping for something audaciously wrong, like Phillip Glass week. Just to shake up expectations.<\/p>\n
