{"id":88422,"date":"2024-10-03T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T15:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=88422"},"modified":"2024-10-03T10:42:31","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T15:42:31","slug":"willful-ignorance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=88422","title":{"rendered":"Willful Ignorance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>People can vote for whoever they want to.&nbsp; It&#8217;s still a fairly free country.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>But I have a fair number of people in my social circle &#8211; co-workers, high school classmates, former teachers and professors &#8211; who are declaiming that they&#8217;re voting for Harris and Walz &#8220;to save democracy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>And I read that and try to grasp how much one must ignore &#8211; willfully or not &#8211; to believe that Harris and Walz support the American republican (small-r) system of popular, federalist government:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supports (and gained power in part thru) big tech censoring dissent<\/li>\n<li>Actively suppressed dissent (Walz&#8217;s snitch lines and thoughtcrime database, as well as Harris&#8217;s coziness with Big Tech and Big Media with their record of censorship so bald-faced that even Mark Zuckerberg is feeling ashamed)<\/li>\n<li>Supports repealing the free market &#8211; the most human economic system for the most people in all of human history &#8211; via price controls and rent control<\/li>\n<li>Harris supports undercutting federalism and the separation of powers via:\n<ul>\n<li>proposing bringing the SCOTUS under control of the executive branch<\/li>\n<li>further ratcheting up power to the administrative state<\/li>\n<li>abolishing the Electoral College<\/li>\n<li>abolishing the filibuster &#8211; one of the last ditch tools in thwarting the impune tyranny of the majority<\/li>\n<li>further centralizing power in the Executive Branch<\/li>\n<li>Indeed, *defying* the checks and balances of our system of enumerated powers (the Harris\/Biden administrations&#8217; unilateral &#8220;forgiveness&#8221; of student loans, and withholding of Congressionally-mandated support to Israel)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Supports abolishing private healthcare<\/li>\n<li>Openly seeks to disarm the law-abiding by executive decree (since they&#8217;ll never get it through Congress), and expressed contempt for the Fourth Amendment in pursuing that?<\/li>\n<li>Wants to ramp up the power of the administrative and regulatory state &#8211; with &#8220;stochastic&#8221; implications of violence.<\/li>\n<li>Actively working to make the border more or less irrelevant &#8211; and the nation&#8217;s shared ideals along with it.<\/li>\n<li>And let&#8217;s not forget the notion that if you dissent obstreporously enough, professional rioters may &#8220;spontaneously&#8221; and with no collusion from Big Left whatsoever, nosirreebob, arrive in your neighborhood?<\/li>\n<li>Subsuming American foreign policy to the power of alliances ?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Against that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Mean tweets<\/li>\n<li>A riot only rhetorically connected with Trump, which has been lavishly prosecuted.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What am I missing, here?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People can vote for whoever they want to.&nbsp; It&#8217;s still a fairly free country.&nbsp; But I have a fair number of people in my social circle &#8211; co-workers, high school classmates, former teachers and professors &#8211; who are declaiming that they&#8217;re voting for Harris and Walz &#8220;to save democracy&#8221;.
