{"id":87003,"date":"2024-02-16T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-16T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=87003"},"modified":"2024-02-16T07:21:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-16T13:21:02","slug":"compliance-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=87003","title":{"rendered":"Compliance!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This got some headlines yesterday:   a group of Somali Muslim families in Saint Louis Park pushed back against the school board, with the aid of a couple of <em>conservat<\/em>ive public interest law firms, and forced the <a href=\"https:\/\/alphanews.org\/st-louis-park-district-agrees-to-let-muslim-families-opt-out-of-lgbt-curriculum\/\">district to allow their children to opt out of LGBTQ content in school<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve added emphasis:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>This change comes after two public interest law firms, <a href=\"https:\/\/truenorthlegal.org\/\">True North Legal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/firstliberty.org\/\">First Liberty Institute<\/a>, sent letters to the school district saying the district\u2019s previous denials of opt-out requests violated the First Amendment and state law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, six Muslim families&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/alphanews.org\/muslim-parents-demand-notice-before-lgbtq-content-taught-to-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requested<\/a>&nbsp;that St. Louis Park public schools provide notice before LGBTQ-affirming books were discussed in class. These families, who emigrated from Somalia over the last two decades, also requested the ability to opt out their children from participating in the curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to previous press statements from the two law firms, <strong>third- and fourth-grade children<\/strong> who were members of the six families were exposed to LBGTQ content in October 2023. <strong>These LGBTQ-centric readings were also allegedly accompanied with the teacher\u2019s commentary on LGBTQ identity<\/strong>. This situation caused \u201csignificant confusion and distress\u201d amongst the six families.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The school district was reportedly, uh, not cooperative.
