{"id":86031,"date":"2023-10-05T06:00:18","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T11:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=86031"},"modified":"2023-09-18T09:21:38","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T14:21:38","slug":"soundtrack-part-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=86031","title":{"rendered":"Soundtrack, Part 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My first couple of days in the Cities, I was staying on a friend&#8217;s couch in Burnsville, working through  my list of job leads (which was short) and going through the want ads to try to find <em>some <\/em>kind of income.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which left a little time for watching that new toy I&#8217;d found, MTV.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I&#8217;m fairly sure this was the first song I ever saw:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Simple Minds - Alive And Kicking\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ljIQo1OHkTI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was Simple Minds&#8217;s followup to &#8220;Don&#8217;t You Forget About Me&#8221;, their megahit from earlier in the year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it was peak SImple Minds;  arty, ingenious, pretentious, memorable, full of Jim Kerr&#8217;s preening, roiling with Charlie Burchill&#8217;s insidious guitar and Mel Gayhor&#8217;s sublime drumming.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I heard it on the overhead at happy hour the other day &#8211; for maybe the second time since 1990.
