{"id":85169,"date":"2023-05-23T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-23T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=85169"},"modified":"2023-05-22T11:17:28","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T16:17:28","slug":"im-an-expert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=85169","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;I&#8217;m An Expert!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Throughout the media, it&#8217;s a universal truism:   Smart people with personalities go into radio; people who get by on looks go into TV. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s conventionally-accepted wisdom throughout the world of mass communications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have exactly as much factual oomph saying that as former Channel 5 weatherperson and DFL senator Nicole Mitchell (DFL, what else, Woodbury) talking about the civil liberty law:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BrL88RuzWK\">pic.twitter.com\/BrL88RuzWK<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Bad Legal Takes (@BadLegalTakes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BadLegalTakes\/status\/1659660422650413056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She&#8217;s referring to  <em>Schenck vs. United States<\/em> &#8211; in which an anti-draft protester during World War One sued over having his civil rights trampled on by the Woodrow Wilson administration, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2022\/01\/shouting-fire-crowded-theater-speech-regulation\/621151\/?fbclid=IwAR3kIZZcs4Y_1Ea0maLG2-rN6JBBh0wxUNjSEzULWR14CeEJema8Pm0ys7E\">often regarded as a toxically stupid decision<\/a>, one which the SCOTUS reversed <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brandenburg_v._Ohio\">in defense of a Klansman&#8217;s right to free speech<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you know what&#8217;s more toxic than that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s say, for purposes of argument, that society has the communal wisdom to abrogate rights &#8220;for the public good&#8221; without doing vastly more harm than good &#8211; again, just for purposes of argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who defines &#8220;the common good?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, it was families, churches, and traditional social institutions that had stood the test of hundreds, sometimes thousands of years . <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DFL and Big Left have been tearing those institutions down, and replacing them with&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s as plain a statement as there is that the DFL wants your civil rights &#8211; all of them &#8211; to be political swag to be doled out as rewards, if at all. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Throughout the media, it&#8217;s a universal truism: Smart people with personalities go into radio; people who get by on looks go into TV.
