{"id":83410,"date":"2022-09-21T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=83410"},"modified":"2022-09-20T08:53:46","modified_gmt":"2022-09-20T13:53:46","slug":"83410","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=83410","title":{"rendered":"No Sense Of Measure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;ve never been a huge fan of 60s-80s prog-rock band &#8220;Yes&#8221;, really.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I am a huge fan of artistic excess.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actual &#8220;Yes&#8221; fans dunk on me pretty hard for being much more into their eighties incarnation, with Trever Rabin replacing Steve Howe on guitar &#8211; the edition of the band that did <em>Owner of a Lonely Heart<\/em> almost forty years ago&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;and, its followup single, this weird, elliptical, &#8220;prog&#8221;-rock meets new wave detour &#8220;Leave It&#8221;, with one of the weirder videos in the early history of MTV:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Yes - Leave It (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8-hJFoSgXfM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Did I say &#8220;one?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recall a brief blurp of controversy in the eighties about the video &#8211; or videos &#8211; to this song, but I never retained many of the details.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But details, there were &#8211; a total of 18 videos, produced by Kevin Godley and Lol Creme, the art-rock polymaths behind the band &#8220;10cc&#8221;, who went on to write the figurative book on &#8220;groundbreaking&#8221;, disconcerting and, now, oddly archaic video production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the story just gets better and better:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m almost sorry I missed this the first time around. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"History and Mystery of Yes&#039; &quot;Leave It&quot; - The Most (Lost) Music Videos to One Song | Music Video Time\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kFNXbiNfjtI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s from the brief period where I could actually enjoy &#8220;Yes&#8221;, apropos not much. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve never been a huge fan of 60s-80s prog-rock band &#8220;Yes&#8221;, really.
