{"id":83080,"date":"2022-08-12T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-12T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=83080"},"modified":"2022-08-10T15:21:06","modified_gmt":"2022-08-10T20:21:06","slug":"just-like-they-say-nothing-good-ever-lasts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=83080","title":{"rendered":"Just Like They Say, Nothing Good Ever Lasts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I\u2019ve wondered for years; what would it be that forced Walmart, finally, to end its quaint, small to midsize southern city tradition of allowing RVs and campers to stay in Walmart parking lots overnight?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I always figured it would be a lawsuit brought in someplace like the Twin Cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t know how Walmart is going to react <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kare11.com\/article\/news\/local\/mother-sues-walmart-after-childs-death-in-parking-lot\/89-4b156476-0e93-44fc-a586-728b45b5a553?fbclid=IwAR2js3c9v9W45ugz2vNIEMqEFYiQQL6qQ7k1TDImE5VMik-ChHfaOqhOb0U#l6o1pyezwbbcpnnbdvj\">\u2013 but the suit has arrived<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Essie McKenzie alleges that Walmart&#8217;s policy to allow RVs and other vehicles camp in their store parking lots led a California couple to stay overnight in August of 2019, and eventually use a hotplate that started McKenzie&#8217;s van on fire with her two children sleeping inside. The lawsuit alleges wrongful death, and says by allowing people to camp with no supervision, permit requirements or sanitation, Walmart has maintained dangerous conditions on store grounds. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I suppose it\u2019s inevitable \u2013 everything that is good and innocent must be crushed, or turned into an opportunity to transfer more wealth to the regulatory class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yeah, I\u2019m getting a little peevish about it.
