{"id":81937,"date":"2022-05-05T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-05T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=81937"},"modified":"2022-05-04T08:55:09","modified_gmt":"2022-05-04T13:55:09","slug":"let-me-spell-this-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=81937","title":{"rendered":"Let Me Spell This Out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Big Left has been chanting about &#8220;reforming&#8221; the Senate again.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep Phillips summed up a chanting point we&#8217;ve heard from the likes of Tina Smith and Nancy Pelosi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/RepDeanPhillips\/status\/1521509203202002947\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me spell this out for the benefit of Democrats:  the US is not &#8211; or is not <em>supposed <\/em>to be &#8211; a government with all significant power centralized at the national level, like the UK or France.  It&#8217;s a federation of states &#8211; the United <em>States<\/em>, a group of independent and interdependent mini-nations joined in a federation with limited, enumerated powers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the primary reason to enumerate and limit those powers?  To prevent the most populous states from dictating national policy to smaller states.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s why we have a House of Representatives to directly represent The People, and a Senate that represents the interests of States; to check and balance the interests of <em>both sides<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This enumeration of powers, and limits on those powers, is called the Constitution. The Constitution is very closely analogous to a contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when you breach a contract, the law &#8211; well, a <em>just <\/em>legal system &#8211; offers relief to the parties to the contract.  Including the dissolution of the contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abrogating the Senate&#8217;s ability to check and balance the majority and act in <em>states <\/em>interest is a breach of contract, and grounds for dissolving the Union. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prove me wrong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOTE:  If your answer is &#8220;the question &#8216;can we secede&#8217; was settled in 1965&#8221;?  No.  Two reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It was settled in 1776.  <\/li><li>If the contract is null and void &#8211; and it will be &#8211; then there&#8217;s no union to secede from. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>F*** around and find out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Big Left has been chanting about &#8220;reforming&#8221; the Senate again.
