{"id":78852,"date":"2021-07-21T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-21T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=78852"},"modified":"2021-07-20T07:20:00","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T12:20:00","slug":"think-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=78852","title":{"rendered":"Think \u201cProgress\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Minneapolis is <a href=\"https:\/\/minnesota.cbslocal.com\/2021\/07\/19\/minneapolis-residents-speak-directly-to-police-chief-sheriff-about-crime-concerns-as-city-reaches-50th-homicide-of-2021\/?utm_campaign=true_anthem&#038;utm_medium=facebook&#038;utm_source=social&#038;fbclid=IwAR3_H7WlEOdCYVbwjfnHpa4wPHc5QUcTwH1E5tLwaA9BphClF4l2Qwqy41k\">almost on track to beat the murder rate from the \u201cMurderapolis\u201c years.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>There have been 50 homicides so far this year in Minneapolis, which is close to the amount that had accumulated by the summer of 1995 \u2014 the year the city was given the nickname \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/minnesota.cbslocal.com\/2021\/07\/11\/what-can-the-state-do-to-combat-gun-violence\/\">Murderapolis<\/a>.\u201d There were 97 total murders that year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike most Minnesota endeavors, I wouldn\u2019t rule out Minneapolis \u201cwinning\u201c the title this time around. During the Murderapolis years, both of the Twin Cities mayors believed that law and order and public safety our primary jobs city government what is there to do. Not \u201cprivileges\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t say I was a huge fan of Sharon Sayles Belton, but she and the City Council she had actually knew what their priorities were supposed to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Jacob Frey ran for office as a \u201claw and order\u201c candidate (compared to the contenders in the field against whom he ran, at any rate), Minneapolis is weak mayor system and strong, and progressive to a fault, City Council make that more or less futile.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minneapolis is almost on track to beat the murder rate from the \u201cMurderapolis\u201c years.
