{"id":7785,"date":"2010-01-11T17:50:06","date_gmt":"2010-01-11T22:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=7785"},"modified":"2010-01-11T17:54:26","modified_gmt":"2010-01-11T22:54:26","slug":"looks-like-theyre-gonna-need-another-powerful-liberal-sugardaddy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=7785","title":{"rendered":"Looks Like They&#8217;re Gonna Need Another Powerful Liberal Sugardaddy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like it&#8217;ll be official: North Dakota governor John Hoeven is going to announce his candidacy to replace Byron Dorgan in about an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to the press conference at 6PM Central time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotthennen.com\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ed and I interviewed Rob Port, who is the foremost <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sayanythingblog.com\">political blogger <\/a>in North Dakota, who correctly noted a nuance that escapes a lot of outside observers; while North Dakota is famously Republican, the state also has a mixed traditi0n in terms of spending; it has the nation&#8217;s only successful state bank and state mill; there&#8217;s a long prairie populist tradition, as well as some of the Scandinavian\u00a0communitarian traditions that the state shares with Minnesota,\u00a0that means the state government is a little more activist than many other Western states.\u00a0 As such, Hoeven is a more &#8220;Moderate&#8221; Republican on spending than some of his GOP counterparts.\u00a0 It&#8217;d be a mistake to call him a RINO; he&#8217;s probably slightly to the right of Norm Coleman and John McCain, and if elected he&#8217;ll be a big improvement over Dorgan, and vastly better than either of Minnesota&#8217;s senators.<\/p>\n<p>Tune in!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like it&#8217;ll be official: North Dakota governor John Hoeven is going to announce his candidacy to replace Byron Dorgan in about an hour.
