{"id":76038,"date":"2020-12-08T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=76038"},"modified":"2020-12-06T06:43:56","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T12:43:56","slug":"a-point-of-clarification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=76038","title":{"rendered":"A Point Of Clarification"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There&#8217;s been a lot of chatter about Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman&#8217;s announcement last Thursday that his office won&#8217;t be asking bail for the following offenses starting next year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"435\" height=\"385\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/img_1295.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-76037\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/img_1295.jpg 435w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/img_1295-300x266.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/img_1295-339x300.jpg 339w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not that Henco is <em>legalizing <\/em>these activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s merely providing no <em>direct consequences for skipping trial<\/em> for accused forgers, felony-level vandals, burglars, porch pirates, kiters, shoplifters, frauds, drug dealers, counterfeiters or welfare cheats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they skip trial, a warrant will be issued for their arrest, and if they eventually come into contact with the law, the warrant will be on their record when they are arrested for the next offense that they won&#8217;t be charged bail for before skipping trial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glad we settled that. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s been a lot of chatter about Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman&#8217;s announcement last Thursday that his office won&#8217;t be asking bail for the following offenses starting next year: It&#8217;s not that Henco is legalizing these activities.
