{"id":73628,"date":"2020-03-20T07:16:26","date_gmt":"2020-03-20T12:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=73628"},"modified":"2020-12-21T05:39:25","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T11:39:25","slug":"sycophants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=73628","title":{"rendered":"Sycophants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>On Friday, when Minnesota had 14 cases of the virus, Governor Walz announced\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2020\/03\/13\/14-covid19-cases-now-in-mn-walz-to-unveil-new-control-measures\" target=\"_blank\">schools would remain open\u00a0<\/a>because health care workers needed daycare so they could go to work and fight the virus.<br>\u00a0On Sunday, when Minnesota had 35 cases of the virus, Governor Walz closed the schools except for children of health care workers who need daycare so they can go to work to fight the virus.\u00a0 Everybody else&#8217;s kids, stay home.\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/state-government\/2020\/03\/walz-orders-all-minnesota-schools-to-close-for-8-days-35-cases-of-covid-19-now-confirmed\/\" target=\"_blank\">But not to halt the spread of the virus\u00a0<\/a>&#8211; no, it&#8217;s to give administrators time to figure out how to teach kids who aren&#8217;t in school.\u00a0<\/p><p>Basically, this is another &#8220;in service&#8221; week, when teachers and administrators try to recreate the wheel that Phoenix University already invented, what every home-schooled parent already uses: distance learning.<\/p><p>Now.\u00a0 In the middle of the pandemic.\u00a0 Now, you start thinking about the possibility of doing something different.\u00a0 Now, after all those years of criticizing and belittling home-schoolers as ignorant and fearful racists, afraid their kids will catch cooties from The Other; now, you&#8217;re adopting their methods without admitting they were right all along.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>And the Twin Cities media praised keeping the schools open as bold leadership on Friday; and praised the decision to close the schools as bold leadership on Sunday; without ever mentioning the two decisions made two days apart are completely contradictory.<\/p><p>Here&#8217;s an alternate possibility.\u00a0 St. Paul teachers were on strike last week.\u00a0 If the governor had closed the schools, they wouldn&#8217;t have been paid.\u00a0 So they quick settled the strike and now they&#8217;re back to work at full pay when the schools close.\u00a0 Lucky for them, they settled.\u00a0 Almost as if they were tipped off.<\/p><p>Joe Doakes<br><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The DFL and the Teachers Union&#8230;<em>connected<\/em>?
