{"id":72814,"date":"2019-12-13T05:41:55","date_gmt":"2019-12-13T11:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=72814"},"modified":"2019-12-13T05:41:55","modified_gmt":"2019-12-13T11:41:55","slug":"yet-again-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=72814","title":{"rendered":"Yet Again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You could almost sense it, coming everywhere from Democrats on social media to progs in the dead tree media; this was going to be the UK election that set <em>so <\/em>much right in the UK, undoing Brexit and re-setting the left&#8217;s agenda&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;and telegraphing the public mood about Trump and the rise of other populists in the west. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/10541284\/election-exit-poll-boris-johnson-on-course-for-a-majority-as-polls-predict-tory-win\/\">they were half right<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Mr Johnson&#8217;s snap General Election gamble paid off as he romped home with an estimated majority of 78.<br>The ecstatic Tory boss said his &#8220;stonking&#8221; win has given him a &#8220;powerful mandate to get Brexit done&#8221; as humiliated Jeremy Corbyn vowed to quit.<br>The results mean Britain&#8217;s political chaos could finally be over, leaving Mr Johnson with the numbers to finally push his Brexit deal through Parliament in just weeks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m trying to remember the last time anyone had an absolute majority.  Under Thatcher? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final count:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Tories:  364<\/li><li>All the rest: 284.
