{"id":72737,"date":"2019-12-02T07:00:56","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T13:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=72737"},"modified":"2019-12-02T06:56:45","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T12:56:45","slug":"review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=72737","title":{"rendered":"Review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Supreme Court, for the first time in nearly a decade, is <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.usatoday.com\/amp\/4251054002?fbclid=IwAR1Cds3qt5E7Ukkyg0L7KOVTeM0_6SeDXExLcGs_bzqwqAl8jRyCTpJbuxY\">hearing a significant Second Amendment case<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Faced with a defunct ban on transporting guns outside city limits, the increasingly conservative court majority could&nbsp;render a decision making&nbsp;clear what some justices believe: that the Second Amendment extends beyond the home, and that lower courts should view&nbsp;state and local limits on&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2017\/06\/26\/supreme-court-wont-rule-carrying-guns-public\/101610512\/\" target=\"_blank\">carrying guns in public&nbsp;<\/a>with skepticism.<br>&#8220;This would be a strange case in which to go big,&#8221; says Joseph&nbsp;Blocher, a professor at Duke University School of Law and co-director of the Duke Center for Firearms Law. &#8220;Yet the stakes going forward are potentially huge.&#8221;<br><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I heard Prof. Blocher in NPR yesterday.  He seems to believe that the SCOTUS will find some excuse to turn this case toward <em>expanding limits <\/em>on gun rights.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure if it was Pauline Kael syndrome, or playing to the NPR audience&#8217;s echo chamber, or if he knows something I don&#8217;t.   I wasn&#8217;t impressed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Gun rights groups were surprised in January when the high court agreed to hear the case.
