{"id":72569,"date":"2019-11-05T07:51:16","date_gmt":"2019-11-05T13:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=72569"},"modified":"2019-11-05T07:51:16","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T13:51:16","slug":"the-new-victorians-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=72569","title":{"rendered":"The New Victorians"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>140 years ago, VIctorian manners were deferential to women, as befits behavior toward a weaker sex that needed to be protected.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kansas-prosecutors-to-drop-false-rape-charges-for-fear-real-victims-wont-come-forward\">we&#8217;ve regressed<\/a>:  a Kansas woman charged with falsely accusing an ex-boyfriend of rape won&#8217;t be prosecuted, because&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;well&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The woman was arrested for making a false accusation, even though she told police she did not want to press charges. Police investigated anyway due to the seriousness of her allegations. Her legal fees have been paid for by a legal defense fund created during the #MeToo movement.<br>The Chicago Tribune\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/sns-bc-us--false-rape-report-20191029-story.html\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that prosecutors are dropping the charges against the woman because of the \u201ccost to our community and the negative impact on survivors of sexual violence cannot be ignored.\u201d<br>\u201cWe are concerned this case, and the significant amount of misinformation surrounding it, could discourage other survivors from reporting their attack,\u201d [Douglas County District Attorney Charles] Branson said in a new statement. \u201cThat is unacceptable.\u201d<br>Branson failed to address what dropping the case meant for victims of false accusations. As it stood, the woman only faced up to 23 months in jail for a felony false reporting charge. Had the male student been arrested, he faced decades in prison.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Is there a term for this, other than &#8220;infantlizing women?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in what other area do we refrain from prosecuting liars for fear of deterring the righteous?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other than voting fraud in Minnesota, I mean?<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>140 years ago, VIctorian manners were deferential to women, as befits behavior toward a weaker sex that needed to be protected.
