As a result, Western societies have effectively decided to enforce Islamic restrictions on blasphemy, and called it \u2018tolerance\u2019.<br>The strain of conforming to this lie is evident in the fumbling attempts by the interviewees to explain their objections. Do they believe that Islam is right about women? If so, why the objection? Do they believe that Islam is wrong about women? If so, in what sense is the statement an attack on Islam or Muslims? Do they believe that the author of the poster is saying that \u2018Islam is right about women\u2019, but doing so ironically? In which case, the objection can only be that the author is guilty of a thoughtcrime by stating that \u2018two and two make five\u2019 with insufficient sincerity. Or do they worry that they are guilty of thoughtcrime for noticing the irony?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, it&#8217;s all fun until an entire free society is destroyed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Such abdication grinds down the ideologically obedient citizen, because it reduces life to a purely material existence, in which moral integrity and human dignity must be sacrificed in order to keep the state off one\u2019s back and oneself in a job. This is a fate which Havel suggested might one day befall the West if it were ever to succumb to the \u2018profane trivialisation of humanity\u2019 required to live within a lie rather than challenge it. With police now calling on citizens to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spiked-online.com\/2019\/08\/16\/nineteen-eighty-four-is-now-a-policing-manual\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018check their thinking\u2019<\/a>, and people regularly\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spiked-online.com\/2019\/06\/25\/blasphemy-is-now-a-sackable-offence-asda-islam-billy-connolly\/\" target=\"_blank\">losing jobs over social-media posts<\/a>, who can say that we have not reached it?<br><br><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, Al-Ameri &#8211; a UK-based writer &#8211; is writing about the UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Largely. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Simple messages printed on white paper start appearing in Massachusetts.
