Soft-ball questions that Morrison was supposed to ask were circulated\u00a0ahead of time<\/a>\u201cwithin the Department of Corrections and the governor\u2019s office.\u201d
But when the audience noticed that most of the men behind bars in the documentary were non-white, the issue of race came up\u2014indeed, racial minorities make up around\u00a020 percent<\/a>of Minnesota\u2019s overall population, but account for\u00a0about half<\/a>\u00a0of Minnesota\u2019s prison inmates.\u00a0
Morrison ran with those questions about race, and Gwen Walz appeared to be stumped. Some in the crowd felt she was\u00a0sidestepping<\/a> the race issue entirely….Once the event was over, the Walz administration scrambled to get the video of the event deleted.

Sarah Walker, a former Department of Corrections (DOC) employee\u00a0<\/em>who was pushed out over a lobbying scandal<\/a>, was also on the panel. Walker seems to suggest that her not properly defending Gwen Walz during that panel led to her eventual exit from the DOC. Walker\u00a0<\/em>told MPR<\/a>\u00a0that Beckmann, Walz\u2019s deputy chief of staff, told Walker over the phone: \u201cIt\u2019s taken care of \u2026 We talked to TPT.\u201d According to Walker, Beckmann continued to say that \u201cThe TPT president has now apologized and agreed to destroy all of the videotapes that were made of the event.\u201d<\/em>
That\u2019s further confirmed by Donna Saul Millen, managing director of events and engagement at TPT, who\u00a0<\/em>wrote in an email<\/a>: \u201cThe short answer \u2026 the first lady\u2019s office made the request and we didn\u2019t have plans to use it (at least not at that time) \u2026 The obvious answer [to explain TPT\u2019s action to delete the tape is that] it was an easy way to smooth out ruffled feathers.\u201d<\/em>
