A <a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2019\/07\/were-you-wondering-why-no-one-was-there-to-stop-the-shooting-in-santa-clara-california-virtually-no-one-has-a-concealed-handgun-permit\/?fbclid=IwAR1zY3J6oFQWE0qRz7TUIDGQ0Ao3eEY4kIZUbrbhtZzZd81fSLuoWJjGyyQ\">gun free zone in a gun free state:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Three people were killed and 15 injured. In 2018, the County with a little over\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/CA,santaclaracountycalifornia\/INC110217\" target=\"_blank\">1.5 million adults<\/a>\u00a0had issued just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2018\/08\/new-study-17-25-million-concealed-handgun-permits-biggest-increases-for-women-and-minorities\/\">113 concealed handgun permits<\/a> \u2014 that is just 0.007% of adults. To put it differently, that is only 1 permit issued for every 14,300 people. General citizens in Santa Clara County are banned from being able to carry concealed handguns. There is no nearby county that has even one percent of the population with permits, and for California as a whole, only 0.39% of adults have a permit. Last year, outside the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8.63% of the adult population has a permit.<br><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>And the security whose job it was to try to protect people &#8220;better than they could do it themselves?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shooter went to the unbelievable length of&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2019-07-28\/gilroy-garlic-festival-shoot-gunman-cut-through-fence-to-avoid-security-police-say\">avoiding it:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Police said the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2019-07-28\/reports-of-shooting-at-gilroy-garlic-festival\" target=\"_blank\">man who opened fire<\/a>\u00a0at the festival Sunday, killing three and wounding 15, was able to get around security by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2019-07-28\/witnesses-describe-gilroy-garlic-festival-shooting-horror\" target=\"_blank\">entering through a back area<\/a>\u00a0of Christmas Hill Park.<br>Gilroy Police Chief Scott Smithee said the gunman used \u201csome sort of tool\u201d to cut a fence next to a creek to get into the event.<br>Christmas Hill Park backs up against a wilderness area, though it is unclear exactly where the gunman entered.<br>Smithee said the festival had security checkpoints with metal detectors.<br><br><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I started trying to count up all the mass shootings that&#8217;d taken place in guns where, unbelievably, shooters had broken laws and even explicitly evaded security measures. I gave up.  It&#8217;s not &#8220;all of them&#8221;, but it&#8217;s pretty close. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government in California would rather you were helpless and dead than have the ability to resist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So would anyone who proposes gun control.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gilroy Garlic Festival.
