In the wake of the session, the Pioneer Press ran a letter to the editor – “Democrats offered plenty of compromises on gun bills<\/a>” – from one Jo Haugen.\u00a0 \u00a0I wrote a response.\u00a0 It never got printed.<\/p>\n

Shocking, right?<\/p>\n

Well, that’s one of the reasons I started this blog, now, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

In her May 22 letter to the editor (“Democrats offered plenty of compromise on gun bills\u201d), Jo Haugen criticized Senate Majority Leader Gazelka for kililing the DFL\u2019s gun control bills, because “a vast majority of Minnesotans as well as law enforcement support these bills\u201d<\/p>\n

If \u201cmandate\u201d were real, then Speaker Hortmann and Majority Leader Winkler should have had no trouble passing the measures – \u201cRed Flag\u201d confiscation and \u201cUniversal\u201d registration bills – as standalone measures, confident that that massive support would be greeted with hosannas at election time.<\/p>\n

Curiously, they could not. \u00a0Winkler didn\u2019t have the votes to do that, and snuck them into the omnibus Public Safety bills against bipartisan opposition.<\/p>\n

Either the House DFL leadership are cowards for ignoring Ms. Haugen\u2019s supposed mandate, or the \u201cvast majority\u201d of Minnesotans support nothing of the sort, and the polling to which Ms. Haugen refers was a bogus piece of propaganda.<\/p>\n

Minnesota\u2019s gun control movement: \u00a0The few, trying to control the many with the acquiescence of the gullible.<\/p>\n
