{"id":7025,"date":"2009-12-09T12:24:12","date_gmt":"2009-12-09T17:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=7025"},"modified":"2009-12-09T12:24:12","modified_gmt":"2009-12-09T17:24:12","slug":"superlatives-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=7025","title":{"rendered":"Superlatives!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Obama&#8217;s approval ratings are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2009\/12\/08\/obamas-percent-approval-lowest-president-point\/\">the lowest of any president at this point in their first term<\/a>, since they started keeping records:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>President Obama&#8217;s job approval rating has fallen to 47 percent in the latest Gallup poll, the lowest ever recorded for any president at this point in his term.<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and even Richard Nixon all had higher approval ratings 10-and-a-half months into their presidencies. Obama&#8217;s immediate predecessor, President George W. Bush, had an approval rating of 86 percent, or 39 points higher than Obama at this stage. Bush&#8217;s support came shortly after he launched the war in Afghanistan in response to the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s best not to get too excited; Ronald Reagan&#8217;s numbers were only two points better at this point in 1982, and Bill Clinton was only five points better &#8211; and we know how both of those turned out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yes, we do.\u00a0 Reagan had a solid plan for solidifying our tanking economy and fixing the foreign-policy nightmare of the seventies.\u00a0 And Clinton was well on the road to getting chastened for his overreach on healthcare, after which he triangulated so far to the right that he actually ran a more fiscally-responsible adminsitration (with the aid of GOP majorities in both houses) than his successor.<\/p>\n<p>Obama?\u00a0 So far, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/article.php?id=D9CF8SIO0&amp;show_article=1\">we haven&#8217;t gotten to that point yet<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>President Barack Obama outlined new multibillion-dollar stimulus and jobs proposals Tuesday, saying the nation must continue to &#8220;spend our way out of this recession&#8221; until more Americans are back at work.Without giving a price tag, Obama proposed a package of new spending for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, deeper <a style=\"DISPLAY: inline; FONT-WEIGHT: 400; FONT-SIZE: 14px; CURSOR: pointer; FONT-STYLE: normal; FONT-FAMILY: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.breitbart.com\/tax+breaks\/\">tax breaks<\/a> for small businesses and <a style=\"DISPLAY: inline; FONT-WEIGHT: 400; FONT-SIZE: 14px; CURSOR: pointer; FONT-STYLE: normal; FONT-FAMILY: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.breitbart.com\/tax+incentives\/\">tax incentives<\/a> to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Great news if you&#8217;re a highway worker!\u00a0 Or a window installer!\u00a0 Not so much elsewhere, of course.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll await details on how Obama next plans to spend his way out of deficit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Obama&#8217;s approval ratings are the lowest of any president at this point in their first term, since they started keeping records: President Obama&#8217;s job approval rating has fallen to 47 percent in the latest Gallup poll, the lowest ever recorded for any president at this point in his term.
