{"id":70167,"date":"2019-03-05T05:00:46","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T11:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=70167"},"modified":"2019-03-04T21:00:13","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T03:00:13","slug":"moral-hazard-signal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=70167","title":{"rendered":"Moral Hazard Signal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>In economics, the term \u201cmoral hazard\u201d means you have no incentive to guard against risk because you\u2019re protected from the consequences, for example, by insurance.<br>I think the concept could be applied to societies.\u00a0 In ancient times, a woman had to be careful who she slept with because pregnancy could be life-threatening.\u00a0 It was foolhardy for a single woman to undertake it \u2013 she\u2019d be unable to forage for food or to defend herself from predators while pregnant or hauling around an infant.\u00a0 She\u2019d need someone willing to hunt for her and protect her, a mate who would stand by her even after the immediate pleasurable act was done.<br>Societies developed rituals, traditions and laws to ensure women were careful and men stayed protective.\u00a0 Oaths before God, punishment for fornication and adultery, stigma of bastardy and difficulty of divorce all combined to force people into the best social welfare system for the protection of women and children ever devised \u2013 the nuclear family.<br>We began to abandon that system about 60 years ago, piece-meal.\u00a0 The result is women no longer need fear unintended pregnancy: they can kill the baby up to and \u2013 if Democrats are to be believed \u2013 even after the moment of birth.\u00a0 If they keep the child, the child is entitled to food, shelter, medical care and protection but not provided by the father, provided by welfare.
