{"id":68452,"date":"2018-11-08T07:00:47","date_gmt":"2018-11-08T13:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=68452"},"modified":"2018-11-07T18:55:21","modified_gmt":"2018-11-08T00:55:21","slug":"sick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=68452","title":{"rendered":"Sick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s rapidly becoming a Berg&#8217;s Law &#8211; liberals are usually good for one round of &#8220;debate&#8221;, until the one round of chanting points they &#8220;know&#8221; about the subject (they don&#8217;t actually know them; they&#8217;re regurgitating) get struck down.\u00a0 Then they switch to ad hominem, ad hominem, ofay mockery, and worse.\u00a0 .<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s true on most subject &#8211; guns, sexual harassment, gay\u00a0 marriage, whatever &#8211; but healthcare is far from an exception.<\/p>\n<p>And in the chanting points that make up their world, &#8220;Single Payer Healthcare&#8221; is an immaculate, unimpeachable concept.\u00a0 \u00a0 None have ever been shown the drastic falloff in outcomes (as opposed to coverage &#8211; which\u00a0<em>is\u00a0<\/em>the easy part.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/sallypipes\/2018\/10\/01\/u-k-s-healthcare-horror-stories-ought-to-curb-dems-enthusiasm-for-single-payer\/amp\/?__twitter_impression=true&amp;utm_source=Cannonites&amp;utm_campaign=779539d2e6-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_10_08_01_52&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_4733177261-779539d2e6-229835797&amp;mc_cid=779539d2e6&amp;mc_eid=28d73e8f52&amp;fbclid=IwAR0oXYoaJZPfAPkHzrTILgdwLHxky2o6MGSWK7Nl3RoSrCM6Q8gzHzDvP_I\">Enter Forbes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Consider one nurse\u2019s letter explaining why she quit the profession. She described horrific working conditions. Medical professionals worked 12-hour shifts with little time for necessities like bathroom breaks or food. Managers felt they couldn\u2019t do anything to change unsafe conditions created by overcrowded hospitals. \u201cYou cannot safely practice under such conditions,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/nhs-nurses-brutally-honest-letter-13127434\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/nhs-nurses-brutally-honest-letter-13127434\">she wrote<\/a>. \u201cMistakes will be made and people will be harmed, some fatally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The shortage of providers has resulted in longer wait times for patients. In May,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2018\/jul\/13\/nhs-operation-waiting-lists-reach-10-year-high-at-43m-patients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2018\/jul\/13\/nhs-operation-waiting-lists-reach-10-year-high-at-43m-patients\">4.3 million people<\/a>\u00a0in the United Kingdom were on waiting lists for surgery, a 10-year high. Adjusting for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:http:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/countries\/\">population<\/a>, that would be like having everyone in the state of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:http:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/states\/\">Florida<\/a>\u00a0on waiting lists. Roughly\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalhealthexecutive.com\/Health-Care-News\/nhs-nursing-shortages-risk-becoming-a-national-emergency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:http:\/\/www.nationalhealthexecutive.com\/Health-Care-News\/nhs-nursing-shortages-risk-becoming-a-national-emergency\">3,500 British patients<\/a>\u00a0have been on hospital waiting lists for more than a year.<\/p>\n<p>More than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/statistics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/Combined-Performance-Summary-September-July-August-data-2018_zyY4kR.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/statistics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/Combined-Performance-Summary-September-July-August-data-2018_zyY4kR.pdf\">one in five British cancer patients<\/a>\u00a0waits longer than two months to begin treatment after receiving a referral from a general practitioner. In Scotland, fewer than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-45331220\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-45331220\">80 percent<\/a>\u00a0of patients receive needed diagnostic tests \u2014 endoscopies, MRIs, CT, scans and the like \u2014 within three months.<\/p>\n<p>These delays are deadly.
