{"id":68403,"date":"2018-10-30T10:45:49","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T15:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=68403"},"modified":"2018-10-29T21:57:10","modified_gmt":"2018-10-30T02:57:10","slug":"miscarriage-of-justice-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=68403","title":{"rendered":"Miscarriage Of Justice &#8211; Part I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, a story broke that had a little something for everyone &#8211; where by &#8220;everyone&#8221; you&#8217;re referring to &#8220;incurious, uncritical consumers of shabby information&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It involved a professor from the University of MInnesota, Dr. Massoud Amin.\u00a0 \u00a0Amin was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/u-of-m-professor-found-guilty-of-shorting-retirement-balances-to-cheat-ex-wife\/493520841\/\">convicted<\/a> of &#8220;Theft by Swindle&#8221; for, it was alleged, concealing funds from his soon-to-be ex wife during a nasty divorce.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll come back to that.<\/p>\n<p>The story got liberals exercised because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/charges-u-prof-conceals-felony-allegation-while-purchasing-14-pistols-in-three-week-period\/442370573\/\">Amin was a gun collector<\/a> (with, dare I say, a penchant for finding bargains).\u00a0 \u00a0That is a classic dog whistle for the left.<\/p>\n<p>And for the, shall we say, less bright on the right?\u00a0 \u00a0A middle-eastern sounding name like Amin&#8217;s is enough to get the &#8220;WATCH FOR TEH SHARIA&#8221; crowd into a froth.<\/p>\n<p>And the media coverage of his divorce proceedings &#8211; including the swindle allegations &#8211; were decidedly unsympathetic.<\/p>\n<p>Sentencing in his trial is scheduled for November 9.<\/p>\n<p>The client is obviously guilty &#8211; right?<\/p>\n<p>Not so fast.\u00a0\u00a0And according to sources with close knowledge of the case, the charges and conviction are well beyond a miscarriage of justice; they were the tip of an iceberg of shenanigans &#8211; borne of malice up against incompetence at best, cynical ambition at worst, all\u00a0 slathered with a layer of legalism.<\/p>\n<p>And when you peel back the onion, you still have something for everyone &#8211; among critical thinkers, this time:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A divorce from hell<\/li>\n<li>City bureaucrats hamfistedly persecuting a law-abiding gun owner<\/li>\n<li>A legal process that reads like something between Michael Crichton and Franz Kafka, tainted by racism\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>amoral careerism<\/li>\n<li>And, at the end of the day, an American who has done decades of groundbreaking work defending this country from cyberterrorism, facing ten years in prison for something that, even\u00a0<em>if\u00a0<\/em>it were a legitimate conviction.<\/li>\n<li>Which, given the evidence I&#8217;ve encountered, it was not.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, a story broke that had a little something for everyone &#8211; where by &#8220;everyone&#8221; you&#8217;re referring to &#8220;incurious, uncritical consumers of shabby information&#8221;.
