Mueller may not be getting any closer to proving collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, but he\u2019s definitely making progress on weaponizing American legal institutions.\u00a0 That\u2019s bad for the nation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mueller\u2019s team seized client records belonging to Mark Cohen, Trump\u2019s attorney.\u00a0 Now Cohen\u2019s attorney, Lanny Davis, has given client records to CNN. <\/u><\/a>\u00a0In the olden days, a lawyer who voluntarily revealed a client confidence would have been disbarred and shunned by the entire legal community, right and left.\u00a0 Nowadays, Cohen and Davis are celebrated as heroes for making Trump look bad in the press.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That change would be bad enough, if I believed attorney-client confidences were gone.\u00a0 But I suspect it\u2019s a one-way change, same as Hillary skating away from consequences for mishandling classified material.\u00a0 I suspect that in the new attorney-client confidentiality rules, the roles of the participants won\u2019t matter, only their politics will matter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If a Liberal makes a Conservative look bad, it\u2019ll be grounds for a reward; if a Conservative makes a Liberal look bad, it\u2019ll be a hanging offense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s the long-term damage Mueller is doing to America.\u00a0 He\u2019s undermining confidence in our basic institutions that hold society together.\u00a0 That\u2019s dangerous because when ordinary people come to believe they have no recourse to justice through the legal system, they\u2019ll start seeking justice outside the law.\u00a0 And when the people who believe that are also the people bitterly clinging to their guns . . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
