It probably doesn’t qualify as a “Berg’s Law” because it may not be absolute and universal – but for the most part, if you scratch the surface of an American “Democratic Socialist”, you’ll find a rich kid with daddy issues.<\/p>\n
So, it seems, with current socialist\u00a0wunderkind\u00a0<\/em>Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.\u00a0 Last week’s big primary winner in a Congressional district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens highlighted the 29 year old “community organizer”, who will likely be going to Congress, and her “Jenny from the Block” story.\u00a0 Listening to her before the election, I caught myself humming “It’s A Hard Knock Life” more than a few times.<\/p>\n So was it baked wind?<\/p>\n What do you think?\u00a0 Remember – it’s almost a Berg’s Law:<\/p>\n Around the age of five, Alexandria\u2019s architect father Sergio Ocasio moved the family from the \u201cplanned community\u201d of Parkchester in the Bronx to a home in Yorktown Heights, a wealthy suburb in Westchester County<\/strong>. The New York Times\u00a0describes<\/a>\u00a0her childhood home as \u201ca modest two-bedroom house on a quiet street.\u201d In a 1999\u00a0profile<\/a>\u00a0of the area, when Ocasio-Cortez would have been ten years old, the Times lauded Yorktown Heights\u2019 \u201cdiversity of housing in a scenic setting\u201d \u2013 complete with two golf courses.<\/p>\n Westchester County<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 which the Washington Post, in a glowing profile on Ocasio-Cortez, describes as only \u201cmiddle class\u201d \u2013\u00a0ranks<\/a>\u00a0#8 in the nation for the counties with the \u201chighest average incomes among the wealthiest one percent of residents.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0According to the Economic Policy Institute,\u00a0the county\u2019s average annual income of the top one percent is a staggering $4,326,049<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Yorktown Heights, specifically, offers a sharp contrast from Bronx living.\u00a0According to USA.com, the town\u2019s\u00a0population<\/a>\u00a0is 81 percent white, and\u00a0median household income<\/a>\u00a0is $96,413<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0nearly double the average for both New York state and the nation<\/strong>, according to data from 2010-2014.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
