I\u2019m skeptical of the present suicide media craze.<\/p>\n
There were a couple of high-profile celebrity suicides.\u00a0 Nobody knows why.\u00a0 But the CDC used the occasion to rush out a study showing a massive rise in suicide rates, then used that study to justify demands for restrictions on \u201clethal means.\u201d\u00a0 Since both celebrities hanged themselves in hotels, about which nobody proposes to do anything, the CDC is engaging in politicized research again.\u00a0 Its demand is just code for \u201cgun control\u201d based on a supposed crisis of suicide.<\/p>\n
And is there actually a crisis?\u00a0 I question the data set.\u00a0 Notice that it ran from just before the real estate crash until the end of the Obama administration. \u00a0Everybody bought real estate to hop on the escalator of wealth \u2013 we were all going to get rich.\u00a0 Then it crashed and millions of families lost their life savings.<\/p>\n
Who commits suicide?\u00a0 People who have lost hope.\u00a0 People engulfed in despair.\u00a0 And during those years, who were those people?\u00a0 Middle-class, middle-aged White men in flyover states.\u00a0 The people society insisted didn\u2019t build anything, hadn\u2019t earned any respect.\u00a0 The people mocked in every commercial and television show as bumblers when they weren\u2019t portrayed as evil.\u00a0 The people society couldn\u2019t wait to die so the world would be a better place.<\/p>\n
Lost your home. Lost your job.\u00a0 Wife was unfulfilled in the marriage so she took the kids and family court stripped you of access to your own kids.\u00a0 The President scorns you as a bitter clinger.\u00a0 The queen-apparent thinks you\u2019re deplorable.\u00a0 Immigrants are swarming into the country having more rights and benefits than you, who spent your entire life working to better this nation.\u00a0 What\u2019s to live for?<\/p>\n
But then, Trump.<\/p>\n
The economy has flipped.\u00a0 The nation has jobs.\u00a0 People are daring to have hope. \u00a0\u00a0People are glimpsing a better world, one worth living in.<\/p>\n
Do we still have a suicide crisis?\u00a0 Or was that a temporary problem caused by Obama and his Liberal allies?\u00a0 Maybe we\u2019ve not only started to make America great again, maybe we\u2019re making ourselves proud again, making life worth living again?\u00a0 Now THAT would be an astonishing Presidential legacy.<\/p>\n
