Human Rights Council<\/a>\u00a0this week that \u201cincitement to violence\u201d is \u201crampant\u201d and \u201cunchecked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reuters reports that in an interim submission to the U.N. Human Rights Council, fact-finding mission chair Marzuki Darusman emphasized the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-myanmar-rohingya-facebook\/u-n-investigators-cite-facebook-role-in-myanmar-crisis-idUSKCN1GO2PN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cdetermining role\u201d<\/a>\u00a0of social media networks in the conflict, which he said \u201csubstantively contributed to the level of acrimony and dissension and conflict\u201d in Myanmar. \u201cAs far as the Myanmar situation is concerned, social media is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/fortune500\/facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a>, and Facebook is social media,\u201d Darusman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-myanmar-rohingya-facebook\/u-n-investigators-cite-facebook-role-in-myanmar-crisis-idUSKCN1GO2PN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told reporters<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Granted, it&#8217;s only the UN.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s a broadside against hate speech &#8211; which is applicable in this case, but Facebook will use it as further grounds to stifle conservative speech even further.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it&#8217;s nice to see virtue-signallers get slapped.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook &#8211; which is unstinting about signaling its progressive virtue domestically &#8211; is being assessed some culpability in the oppression of the Rohynga minority in Burma: A U.N. fact-finding mission has highlighted the role of social media networks, and Facebook in particular, in fueling hate speech against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar,\u00a0telling the U.N.
