{"id":65654,"date":"2018-01-10T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-10T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=65654"},"modified":"2018-01-09T20:03:13","modified_gmt":"2018-01-10T02:03:13","slug":"youre-just-another-panel-in-the-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=65654","title":{"rendered":"You&#8217;re Just Another Panel In The Wall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/us\/2017\/01\/20\/us-mexico-border-fence-jpm-orig.cnn\/video\/playlists\/mobile-immigration-border-wall-debate\/\">The United States border with Mexico is about 1,900 miles long<\/a>.\u00a0 Trump seeks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2018\/01\/06\/trump-seeks-18-billion-to-extend-border-wall-over-10-years\">$18 billion to build The Wall over 10 years<\/a>.\u00a0 Not good enough.\u00a0 He\u2019s only in office three more years, after which his successor can halt construction.\u00a0 We\u2019ve seen this before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Reagan traded amnesty for promises of increased border security, in 1986.\u00a0 A few miles of fence were built in San Diego in 1990 but Democrats handled the promise like a Popeye cartoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Bush signed the Secure Fence Act in 2006 which authorized 700 miles of fence, again mostly in border towns.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a fence, nothing particularly hard to defeat, and it\u2019s only a short part of the border. 1,200 miles are still wide open.\u00a0 Immigrants walked around the end of the fence, by the millions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Bureaucrats complain it\u2019s hard to build a fence in the desert but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/programmes\/general\/2007\/11\/200852518465249175.html\">Israel built a border fence<\/a> to keep terrorists out after the 2000 conflict.\u00a0 It\u2019s 450 miles long and they completed it in 3 years, start to finish.\u00a0 It\u2019s been amazingly effective at keeping out terrorists. Israeli engineers are capable, but Americans are not?\u00a0 Nonsense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The lesson from history is clear:\u00a0 Trump must get the entire remaining 1,200 miles of fence built before he leaves office, or it won\u2019t happen.\u00a0 The only way to make that happen is to hang a hammer over the heads of amnesty advocates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">When the fence is FINISHED, we will amnesty to qualified immigrants who can prove they were in the country as of 2017.\u00a0 No new arrivals (end chain migration and anchor babies).\u00a0 \u00a0No convicts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Otherwise, I suspect Derb is correct:\u00a0 We shall end up with a bill giving amnesty to the DACA illegals in return for an end to the \u201cdiversity visa\u201d lottery and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/john-derbyshire-the-endless-dacathalon-and-how-serious-countries-handle-immigration\">a new paint scheme for the border posts<\/a>.
