{"id":65424,"date":"2017-12-14T11:00:40","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T17:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=65424"},"modified":"2017-12-13T22:08:38","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T04:08:38","slug":"a-terrible-year-in-music-gets-worse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=65424","title":{"rendered":"A Terrible Year In Music Gets Worse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pat DiNizio of the Smitherens is dead at 66.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The who?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Siddown, kid.<\/p>\n<p>The Smithereens, from Carteret, NJ, need no introduction to anyone who was listening to the radio in the mid-eighties.\u00a0 Crisp, taut melodic power-pop with just enough garage to make it fun and just enough polish to make it memorable,<\/p>\n<p>And against the stereotype backdrop of eighties music &#8211; glossy stylied synth-pop, slick hair metal, and of course the golden age of the Big Arena Rock Anthem, it was defiantly retro, not as a stylistic statement, but for the sheer love of the sound.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Blood and Roses&#8221; was first:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vqML7WbOun8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Only a Memory&#8221; was probably my favorite:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DHYkYYikewU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A Girl Like You&#8221; was, if memory serves, their biggest hit:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5LwjD8z2mOg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;ve learned the hard way; never ask if it could get worse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pat DiNizio of the Smitherens is dead at 66. &#8220;The who?&#8221; Siddown, kid.
