There are 32 teams in the NFL and each team has a 53-man roster, for a total of 1,696 players in the NFL.<\/p>\n
There are 15,588 college seniors who are eligible to be drafted from the NCAA to the NFL.\u00a0 Add in a few more from other, non-NCAA schools, and we\u2019re talking about 17,000 or a 1-in-10 ratio.\u00a0 But most players last several years, which means that for every man that makes it into the NFL, many more don\u2019t make the cut.\u00a0 How many, I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 20?\u00a0 30?\u00a0 50?<\/p>\n
What\u2019s the qualitative difference between the guys who make it versus the guys who don\u2019t?\u00a0 Aside from the Heisman Trophy Winner, I\u2019d bet it\u2019s a razor-thin margin. Which means the NFL could afford to dump a powerful number of existing players to replace them with almost-as-good players, at least for a while.\u00a0 Ever see the Keanau Reeves movie \u201cReplacements?\u201d\u00a0 Like that.<\/p>\n
Wouldn\u2019t even have to do it.\u00a0 Just threaten it.\u00a0 Call in some of those replacements for tryouts.\u00a0 Let the regulars know their replacements are warming up.\u00a0 \u201cSee that line of guys out the door and down the block?\u00a0 They all want your job.\u00a0 How badly do YOU want your job?\u00a0 If you are more interested in social justice antics than playing football . . . .\u201d<\/p>\n
