{"id":64492,"date":"2017-09-14T05:00:28","date_gmt":"2017-09-14T10:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=64492"},"modified":"2017-09-14T00:38:19","modified_gmt":"2017-09-14T05:38:19","slug":"muted-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=64492","title":{"rendered":"Muted Victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The First Amendment does not protect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/mncourtsgov\/media\/Appellate\/Court%20of%20Appeals\/Standard%20opinions\/OPa170127-091117.pdf\">a candidate for public office<\/a> from errors made in campaign material.<\/p>\n<p>This candidate said the judicial committee \u201cendorsed\u201d her but the Office of Administrative Hearings scrutinized the records and found the committee merely \u201csupported\u201d her.\u00a0 So that\u2019s a false claim of endorsement and the candidate broke the law.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, this candidate is a nutcase and everybody hates her so it\u2019s fine that she\u2019s being slapped down.\u00a0 But she\u2019s also a Republican in a Democrat state and that gives me pause.\u00a0 I wonder how many times the OAH has scrutinized DFL candidates\u2019 materials to search out errors and what lengths it went to making sure the public wasn\u2019t misinformed?<\/p>\n<p>Joe Doakes<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Good point.
