It&#8217;s changed the way groups spread their message. When organizations like Black Lives Matter have something to say, they&#8217;ll put it on Facebook or Twitter instead of going to a news outlet.<\/p>\n<p>On social media, there&#8217;s little filter of information, <em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2016\/may\/09\/facebook-newsfeed-censor-conservative-news\">Hah<\/a> Hah <a href=\"http:\/\/theweek.com\/articles\/475986\/twitter-censoring-conservatives\">Hah<\/a> &#8211; Ed.]\u00a0<\/em>and the groups can control the entirety of their message instead of handing it off to a reporter to present it.<\/p>\n<p>Activists say news organizations have a history of unequally or inaccurately representing minority groups, which they say contributes to systemic oppression. That makes nontraditional groups like Unicorn Riot an easier source for social justice movements to trust.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There&#8217;s no question that the local mainstream media favors the big, institutional left &#8211; read &#8220;DFL&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I suspect that&#8217;s more a matter of convenience (and the fact that most activists are terrible sources).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twin Cities far-left doesn&#8217;t trust the left-wing media, creates its own.
