Lenin Statue - &quot;Sunday Strip&quot; - Seattle, WA Visit - Mueckenfett\" width=\"202\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Leftover &#8220;art&#8221; from some misbegotten WPA project from hell?<\/p>\n<p>No &#8211; a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Statue_of_Lenin,_Seattle\">labor of &#8220;love&#8221; in the full Orwellian sense of the term<\/a>; \u00a0from Wikipedia:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Lewis E. Carpenter, an English teacher in Poprad originally from\u00a0<a title=\"Issaquah, Washington\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Issaquah,_Washington\">Issaquah, Washington<\/a>, found the monumental statue lying in a scrapyard ready to be sold for the price of the bronze; Carpenter had met and befriended Venkov while in Czechoslovakia. In close collaboration with a local journalist and good friend, Tom\u00e1\u0161 F\u00fcl\u00f6pp, Carpenter approached the city officials with a claim that despite its current unpopularity, the sculpture was still a work of art worth preserving, and he offered to buy it for $13,000.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Times-1993_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Statue_of_Lenin,_Seattle#cite_note-Times-1993-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0After many bureaucratic hurdles, he finally signed a contract with the mayor on March 16, 1993.<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Statue_of_Lenin,_Seattle#cite_note-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>With the help of Venkov, the statue was cut into three pieces and shipped to the United States at a total cost of $40,000.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Times-1993_1-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Statue_of_Lenin,_Seattle#cite_note-Times-1993-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Carpenter financed much of that via mortgaging his home<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The architect of a kleptocratic thugocracy that murdered tens of millions of people over seventy years? \u00a0I&#8217;m #triggered! \u00a0Break out the tow cables and the blowtorches!<\/p>\n<p>But we&#8217;re not done expunging Communism&#8217;s murderous legacy. \u00a0 The Minnesota State Capitol is crowded with paintings and sculptures of people who were figures in the &#8220;Farmer Labor&#8221; Party, and the early years of the merger between them and the Democrats to form the &#8220;DFL&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmer-Labor, as well as the DFL it joined, was expressly pro-communist. \u00a0The new party inherited the FLP&#8217;s support for the USSR and Josef Stalin. \u00a0 The infant DFL, in other words, supported the party of the\u00a0<em>Holodomor<\/em>, of the Gulag, of the Purge.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time to rid our state of this noxious legacy of genocide. \u00a0I suggest a painting-burning and smashing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Politically Incorrect<\/strong>: \u00a0 Next, it&#8217;s time to address statues and other public art that pays omage to a \u00a0<em>Christianist\u00a0<\/em>preacher who was a very powerful spokesperson against gay marriage &#8211; one whose influence among opponents to gay marriage today is too huge to calculate; one who, were he alive today, would be railing against same sex marriage with a fluency and authenticity today&#8217;s speakers can only dream about.<\/p>\n<p>That anti-gay bigot?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" title=\"What did MLK think about gay people?\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.cdn.turner.com\/cnn\/2012\/images\/01\/13\/t1larg.mlk.jpg\" alt=\"What did MLK think about gay people?\" width=\"463\" height=\"265\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Martin Luther King!<\/p>\n<p>His failure to support gay marriage &#8211; presaging the mass dissent from most black Christian ministers, even today-<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"detail__media__img-highres  js-detail-img  js-detail-img-high alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/images.duckduckgo.com\/iu\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsummitvoice.files.wordpress.com%2F2011%2F09%2Fmlk.jpg&amp;f=1\" alt=\"MLK memorial dedicated on the National Mall \u00e2\u0080\u0093 Summit County Citizens ...\" width=\"391\" height=\"607\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Can this be allowed?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>[1] &#8211; Thanks for nothing, Confederacy. \u00a0Going all-in on the Tenth Amendment, to protect&#8230;the right to own other people? \u00a0 \u00a0Holy flaming crap on a Harley, couldn&#8217;t you have drawn the line at moonshine or gambling or tearing the tags off mattresses when you go all in an one of the Rights of Man?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So many statues out there &#8211; ergo, so much triggering.
