The Administration has decided to put a selection of “accused” terrorists on trial in civilian criminal court.\u00a0 In Manhattan.\u00a0 (We have to call them “accused” or “alleged”, now, they’re in ).\u00a0 Which means that all that talk about the Geneva Convention we were treated to over the past eight years was, as I pretty much suspected, buncombe.<\/p>\n

As the descendants of Lance Ito, Marcia Clark and Johnny Cochrane race for New York to get jobs on the defense team in their attempt to make a mockery of both American justice and <\/em>the last eight years’ efforts against terror, purely for political points (the only <\/em>reason for this is to dig out dirt on the Bush Administration), the Administration is trying to defend the decision<\/span> convince the American people that that quacking green thing with webbed feet and a bill isn’t a duck.<\/p>\n

And on what grounds does Holder defend the decision?\u00a0 Some obscure legal precedent?\u00a0 Some unacknowledged quick in counterterror doctrine?<\/p>\n

Er, no (emphasis added<\/a>):<\/p>\n

Attorney General Eric Holder<\/span> is defending his decision to put the professed Sept. 11<\/span> mastermind on trial in New York<\/span> \u2014 and urging critics of the plan not to cower <\/strong>in the face of terrorists.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ah.\u00a0 We’re not irritated at the crass political opportunism, the huge bone being thrown to the Kossacks on the taxpayer time, or the very real risk that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other 9\/11 planners will be turned loose by a hung New York jury (didn’t Holder ever read Bonfire of the Vanities<\/em>?).<\/p>\n

Nope. It’s that we’re”afraid”.<\/p>\n
