{"id":63989,"date":"2017-08-04T06:00:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T11:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=63989"},"modified":"2017-08-03T10:53:25","modified_gmt":"2017-08-03T15:53:25","slug":"for-the-gander","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=63989","title":{"rendered":"For The Gander"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>SCENE: \u00a0Mitch BERG is sitting in the tire shop, waiting for a patch on a slow leak. \u00a0Just as BERG thinks the phrase &#8220;slow leak&#8221;, Avery LIBRELLE enters the lobby, distracted, and sits. \u00a0Then, LIBRELLE notices BERG.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0Merg!<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0Er, hey, Avery.<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0Donald Drumpf and the Senate are proposing racist immigration laws.<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0Do tell.<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0They want to limit immigration to people who speak English, have skills that are in demand in the US, and who can support themselves.<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0Huh. \u00a0So &#8211; you like Canadian healthcare, rigiht?<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0Of course.<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0In fact, you like Canada.<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0I wish the woke, blue states could secede and join up with Canada.<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0You do realize that Canada&#8217;s immigration system requires would-be immigrants to have skills that Canada needs &#8211; but\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>to take a job a Canadian needs &#8211;\u00a0<em>or\u00a0<\/em>to be capable of starting a business that&#8217;ll employ Canadians,\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>that would-be immigrants be able to support themselves so as not to be an immediate burden on their single-payer health insurance system&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0But they&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0I know, I know &#8211; they also allow a strictly-limited, and fairly small, number of refugees, plus an equally strictly-lijmited number of relatives of Canadian citizens &#8211; who, in effect sponsor the immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0(<em>stands, non-pliused<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>BERG: \u00a0So are the Canadians &#8220;racist&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>(<em>Tire store employee walks over to the two<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>EMPLOYEE: \u00a0Mister&#8230;er, Miss&#8230; Mizz&#8230; (<em>looks at BERG. \u00a0BERG shrugs<\/em>) \u00a0 Er&#8230;Avery?<\/p>\n<p>LIBRELLE: \u00a0Yes?<\/p>\n<p>EMPLOYEE: \u00a0We don&#8217;t actually sell cargo bike tires here&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>And SCENE<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCENE: \u00a0Mitch BERG is sitting in the tire shop, waiting for a patch on a slow leak. \u00a0Just as BERG thinks the phrase &#8220;slow leak&#8221;, Avery LIBRELLE enters the lobby, distracted, and sits. \u00a0Then, LIBRELLE notices BERG.\u00a0 LIBRELLE: \u00a0Merg!
